we might change our ressie to AKL Savannah view room. it's been a while since we last stayed there in a Savannah view room. (Std View is sold out)

anyway, when we stayed on the Zebra Trail overlooking Arusha savannah, there were hardly any animals at all.
we were disappointed.
one night we went walking around the resort, and glanced out at the Sunset Overlook.
there were hordes of animals there! so we thought maybe next time we'd request Sunset savannah instead.
however, that was almost 2 years ago.

have things changed? have the animals shuffled around, and now hang out somewhere different?

the times we would most likely hang out on our balcony watching animals would be late morning, sunset/dusk, or late evening.
so for those of you who also spend those times of days watching the animals from your AKL balcony...

which savannah should we request? any particular location such as really far down the hallway, or a particular Trail, etc?

TIA for your help!

I have never stayed on the Sunset Savannah but we stayed on the Arusha Rock Savannah last October and there were tons of animals!!!!

We just stayed overlooking sunset savannah. We had anakote (sp?) cattle sleeping under our window every night, and a few giraffes and ostriches making their way back and forth (including some giraffes snoozing under our window a few nights). And LOTS of birds. Ask to be near a watering hole, that's where they hang out at night.

Hi disneyberry!

We were on Zebra Trail/Arusha Savannah and saw tons of animals, but mostly at AM feeding (7:30 AM), so I would assume if you request the Sunset Savannah, that would better fit your schedule and give you a better chance at viewing.

Good luck!

I stayed at AKL last January for 2 nights-one night on Sunset Savannah, next night on Arusha savannah (planned to make this change-purpose was to check out this resort). I thought there were more birds on Sunset Savannah, but more animals on Arusha. And I know that at that time at least (1/2002), the Zebras were only on Arusha savannah because the mix of animals was such that that's the only place they could "get along" with the others, I was told.

This question cannot be accurately answered. The animals are free to go 'hang out' wherever they please and usually they do. They have various feeding locations around the savannahs and are rotated...So the final answer is there is no answer...It's just hit or miss.pirate:

The animals are not free to go from Savannah to Savannah. The Sunset Savannah has no zebras. Apparantly zebras do not work and play well with some other animal on that particular Savannah. (I'm thinkin' Bongo). Arusha Savannah has 2 giraffe while Sunset has 3.

I've stayed on Arusha and Sunset. By FAR, I could view more animals, at more times of day, on the Sunset Savannah.

We just got back from 5 nights on the Sunset Savannah, Ostrich Trail and we weren't very pleased with the amount of animals we saw. I was usually up pretty late, till around midnight or later, so from around 10:30pm and later there were many animals outside of our balcony. There are at least 4 giraffes on the Sunset Savannah as we saw 4 eating together everynight from the feeding box outside my mom's balcony (which was next to mine, but mine had a tree obstructing the view of the box). We also saw a herd of ankole cattle everynight, they would sleep in a row along the edge of the pond in front of the overlook. Then the sprinklers would turn on and they would have to wake up and move around the pond. This happened everynight so you'd think they'd be used to the timing and sleep accordingly, but instead they moved everynight as the different sprinkler zones went off. Also, we often saw bongos at night, they'd sleep in a cluster of bushes, then suddenly run out and start eating. Around 4-6:30am (and, yes, I was up during that time everynight to make a potty run due to my future daughter kicking my bladder all night long) the ostriches would come out, usually the giraffes were sleeping near the pond, and the cattle were back sleeping by the pond. So while I saw plenty of animals, my fiancé, who was in bed around 11 everynight and up every morning around 7:30-8, hardly saw any animals as they were always gone during those times. Sometimes you could see some giraffes in the distance, so I guess some rooms on the end of the Kudu Trail had a good view then (this was usually around 8am), but when we woke up for the day, we didn't even see a stray bird from our balcony. We came back to the room once around 6pm and there were some animals around, but nothing like at midnight.

We also stayed on the Zebra Trail, Arusha and Uzima Savannah (one room on each) last 12/27-31 and we always saw animals at almost any time of the day. There were always zebra, giraffes, ankole cattle, and another animal, I think wildebeests, but I don't remember (they were gray), on the Arusha Savannah (and many times other animals too) and always kudu, ankole cattle, and giraffes on the Uzima Savannah, and usually a herd of smaller animals too, maybe thomson's gazelles, not sure though. At night there were fewer animals, but still we saw many, but the Sunset Savannah definitely had more visible from the room late at night.
