AKL vs. POFQ

Let's get ready to rumble!
In this corner we have a DIS favorite weighing in with charm, quantness, and boat to DTD, a proven quality hotel, the POFQ.
In the other corner we have the unknown challenger, AKL, large, exotic, zero entry pool, inside corridors, balconies, sit down restaurants, views of the Savannah.
Which would you do for a Friday and Saturday (4/29&30/05) night stay.
(Of course, AKL will only be done if we receive a good AP rate.)

IMO, if you can get a good rate for AKL, you should do it. Especially if you haven't been there before. It is beautiful and it's my personal Deluxe favorite. But POR will not disappoint either, so if you don't get a good rate, don't spend the extra cash if you can't afford it, to stay at AKL.

I have stayed at both - AKL is the only deluxe we stayed at, and we did have a fabulous stay, but I would only stay there if you can afford the savannah view.

The Pools at both are very good, and I wouldn't be swayed by either, but if you are planning on eating at Boma and Jiko (both superb restaurants) then it may be more convenient to be at AKL.

For a longer stay focusing on visiting the parks, then I would say POFQ without a doubt, but for a shorter stay where you are appreciating the resort and specifically those wonderful restaurants, then I would go for AKL

I just want to clear up that it is not that we can't afford it. It is just that we can't justify paying rack rate. We never have, and never will thanks to the DIS.

Appreciate the two cents, and no offense taken. Just wanted to clarify that it ain't all about the money. Interested in opinions as to whether AKL is worth checking out versus going back to what we know and DW just loves.

I do love FQ as well, but there's nothing like being near all the animals and the design of the lodge. Amazing!

I'll throw my 2 cents in. I haven't stayed at POFQ yet, but I've stayed at AKL a couple of times.

It is my favorite resort. I spend a lot of times at the parks when I go, but coming back to AKL is just SOOOOoooo relaxing for me. I havent had a Savannah room, only pool views so far. I can go outside and watch the animals from any of the viewing areas and I'm happy. I can watch them all day ... it relaxes me.

If codes don't come out this year, I'll probably be trying POR.
