AKL Update 7/12

Was that in the past couple days though? That is when they have seemed to be more aggressive.

No this was a week ago - but my TA (in the UK) is saying they are moving no-one and if I want to move I will have to pay the difference. I am not paying the difference when so many people have been moved at no extra cost and some got money back. I am going to wait it out and see what happens when we arrive unless we get a call before we go.

There was another poster from the UK who really had to battle it out with her TA as they told her the same thing. She was moved to the GF.

When do you leave?

I'm glad that this worked out for you. I was following your story and then got busy and lost track of you!! I do hope you get back to AKL. Our family loves it there:goodvibes I hope you have a wonderful time at the GF.

Thanks so much! The DIS is really a supportive place!

It's an omen that we didn't visit this summer. DH loves AKL and once AKV became available I started working on him to buy. He would have a fit if he had to move! Wow! I don't even want to think about it.

When we were moved from POFQ we could have gone to any resort...our choice and even with all the deluxes out there...the family picked AKL. I guess I should be happy they didn't get hooked on the Grand.

I hope you have a great wedding and honeymoon

Hi Raterfly

my TA, also in the UK, told me that they had spoken to Disney and they had said they were not moving Uk guests at the moment?!

We're booked at AKL from Aug. 17-24 at a concierge level room. After all the confusing info, I called the dedicated line last week. At first I was told that, yes, I had to move, but when I pointed out that we were concierge, she put me on hold for a minute, then returned and said, that I didn't have to move. She said I could stay if I wanted, but there might be some construction noise between 9:00 - 5:00. That's fine with us, as we'll be out and about during those times anyway.

I was also assured that the restaurants, pool, room service, buses etc. would all still be in fully functional. I also called the concierge and talked to him on Friday. He said as of now, no animals have been moved and there is no construction visible from the Arusha savanna.

Anyway, we've decided to stay put and, as far as I know now, will be at AKL from Aug. 17-24. Good luck to all the other AKL summer visitors. This has been very stressful.

I think the key to the confuson here are the people saying they are fine, not moving but called last week. i really think after reading here, talking to my TA and the AKL special services line that a decision was made 3 daya ago to more fully close (if not completely close) gthe resort from now until Sept 1. if it has been more than 4 daya since you spoke to someone, you may want to call again. I really think there is a different plan now than there was a week ago.

Thanks - that reassures me.

EEyorelover22 - I think that other poster from the UK had to ush very hard for the move if I remember. Maybe she got it as it was for her honeymoon.

However, if we get there and are moved then so be it. I read on here today in another post that someone got moved to GF and given £100 a dya for the trouble - I like the sound of that as we are supposed to be there 14 days ;)

This is EXACTLY how my phone call went! Still no phone call from AKL so we plan on staying Aug 14-18! I did hear here on the DIS that a guy was recently checking into AKL and they told him they would have to move him to GF and gave him $100 per day(5 days total) for his troubles. I wouldn't mind that happening to me. But for now I am very content with staying at AKL, I have a hard time believing they are closing the entire resort especially since they have open some of their DVC rooms.

Are you also concierge? I'm not, so I'm a bit more worried.

I'm trying to stay put as well! I hope the best for all of us!

No, I should have mentioned that. I have a pool view reserved!

Ok, we'll there's two of us with no concierge trying to hold on.

Thing is there is almost no deluxe availability in the mid August timeframe for a long stretch of time (there is some for individual days here and there), so SSR might be about the only option.

I'm hoping for the best.

Since I was moved once from POFQ I do know that there is lots of confusion over the whole thing when it first begins and I agree, I think the increased movement of guests is new and if I didn't hold my ground when POFQ closed we would have ended up at CBR which didn't work for us. So, with that in mind, if you're okay with waiting...then do and I am sure either someone will contact you or you'll be moved when you get there.

My only concern would be that you would end up at a resort that isn't your second choice since AKL was your first.

It seems to be consistent too that concierge guests are not being moved.

I wouldn't be able to stand not knowing, but that's my personality;) not only that when we stay at AKL, we eat at Boma at least 5 times and DH and DS eat breakfast there several mornings too so I'd have to know what was going on.

The availability of other resorts is a bit of concern for me as well, but I just have to believe that we really don't know if they are full, just because the computer says there are no availablities at other resorts doesn't necessarily mean that is true, they may be holding some rooms for us unfortunate souls that will need to be moved, anyways, that is how I am thinking about it.:cheer2:

I'm sure they'll tell us a 1 bedroom at SSR is always available. :( Not all bad, but not exactly exciting.

Now Now, lets think positive, have you seen those amazing suites!! We could be the lucky ones!!!:cool1: But your right, SSR is not all that bad, I do think I would want a rental car and a 1 bedroom won't do, I would want a 2 bedroom so we would have 2 separate beds.

When and where were you moved from POFQ? I hope it worked out for you then.

You're right that it very hard not knowing, but I feel a little better since I actually spoke to one of the CMs doing the moves. I'm paid in full, I got my package yesterday with luggage tags, etc. I just don't know what else to do. I guess if we get moved when we get there, we'll have to live with it. I'm just hoping for some Disney Magic.

marlower,

When I brought up the issue of needing two bed because we were three adults and the third person was a 6'4" guy over 200 lbs. who would not be that comfortable on a sofa bed the CM suggested a studio at OKW. I changed the subject very fast at that point since I didn't want a studio and was looking for a two bedroom villa instead. I'm sure everything will work out for everyone.
