AKL Sunrise Safari?

For those of you who have done this, and I hear it's wonderful, can you please tell me after the safari and Tusker House buffet breakfast, what are your options? Disney emphasizes that you must find your own transportation back to your resort. However, won't it be near opening time for the park? If not, what are you allowed to do on the AK premises until it does open? Not sure if any of this makes any sense -- but that's why I'm asking. Thanks.

We did the Sunrise Safari on Dec. 8 and you have to have a pass to use for the day at Animal Kingdom. By the time the safari had ended and we were walking into Tusker House, the park had opened. After breakfast they give you a fast pass to use for the regular safari.

What are the specifics for the Sunrise Safari? Is it still only on select days each week ( I believe Tues and Sat)? Also, are you still required to stay in a Concierge room to do the Safari? If so, which night do you need to stay there?

We went on the Sunrise Safari on 12/9/03 (was that the day you were there bjb?).

The safari is only done on Tues and Sat. You will need to be a guest at AKL Concierge to attend (so at least staying concierge AKL on a Monday night or a Friday night). You need to reserve in advance as there is a limited number allowed (although the day we went it was not 28 which is the number I think I had read before - I think it must have been 56 - two Disney busses and two safari trucks were used.)

Your options after the safari and breakfast is to either stay at AK or park hop to one of the other parks, as you do have to use a days ticket to attend - concierge will take your pass that morning before you leave the lounge.

We are thinking of switching resorts on the day that we do the safari--would that work out? It sounds like we could be back to the resort before check out time...? Or maybe we could request late check out...? Or just be packed and ready to have them move our stuff by the time we leave for the safari....nah, can't imagine being that together at 6am, LOL. What time do you have to be where exactly??

It was December 9 that we did the safari. Dec. 8 is the day we checked in at AKL from the Poly, wannabee princess. Juice and coffee were available in the lounge at 6:30 a.m. and you had to be in the lobby by 7:15 a.m. for the safari, chamonix.

We were done with the buffet at the Tusker House around 10:00. My family stayed at the AK and I went back to the AKL to check out. The CM said we could not get late check-out unless it was a medical necessity.

Bell Services took our bags at 6:30 before we went on the Safari. We transferred to the Polynesian that day. After checking out I put the rest of our things in our van and then met up with my family at the AK. Our bags got to the Polynesian around 4:00. We were still allowed to use the AKL Concierge Lounge for the entire day even though we had offficially checked out.

We went on the Safari Sat. Dec. 6 and we had two full safari trucks. You are going to love it!

Thank you for the detailed information. I just made our ressies this morning, but, alas, once again AKL concierge was already full for our March dates. (we also tried to book there for a November 30th 2003 safari, and although they had a concierge 1 bed suite available, the safari was full. This time there were no concierge rooms or suites) Looks like we will be at the Poly the whole week. I think I am going to call later today to book our summer trip for a night or two at the AKL now, so we can finally do the safari. That is weird about the medical emergency kind of thing--late check out is pretty common, and can often be arranged and/or even paid for at other resorts.

I wanted late check out for 1:00 but was told no by the cm. I didn't inquire about paying since we had a room waiting at the Polynesian. It was a busy weekend at WDW and that may have been a factor.

While we're on the subject (and since I started it) has anyone heard about an "Evening Safari?" I'm not sure yet whether this
is a myth, or if it's true and they just haven't begun doing it yet.
I hear it's the same as the SS, but offered after the park closes and ends up with dinner @ Jiko.

There is an evening safari,its 150.00 a person.

Did I have the details correct? Any information on this safari would be greatly appreciated. For $150, I better get to take home my animal of choice. LOL

The only info i have is that you get to tour all 3 safaris and then you have a sunset toast,and then you go to Jikos and have dinner with wine pairings.I think the tour lasts about 1-1 1/2 hours.Dont hold me to that though,but i think thats right.

That sounds about right, according to what I have heard also. Your dinner and wine are included of course. Oh, and the group is very small--maybe 8-15 people max, I believe. In fact...the more I think about it, I think it is only 4 couples. This is why I didn't look into it too much--it is only for "couples" and we have a child. (which is what sometimes happens when you are a couple, lol)
