AKL Standard Room Advice

Couldn't get a bite on the AKL FAQ so am asking here.

We're planning on booking a standard view room at the AKL when (if) the AP codes come out for June and I'd like to be prepared. I'd like to know what sort of requests I should put in to get the best possible standard view. I'm mainly concerned about avoiding those rooms that overlook the walkway to the busses but any other tips would be appreciated. I don't think we'll be able to upgrade to a pool or savannah view. A standard room will be stretching the budget as it is.

Thanks,
Jennifer

Standard view rooms are available along the Ostrich Trail and the Giraffe Trail. The Giraffe Trail rooms are closer to the pool and the restaurants, but the path to the busses goes right by them.

So when I made my reservation for standard view, I put in a request for a room along the Ostrich Trail. According to the map, the walk from these rooms to the pool and restaurants does not appear to be too bad and they should be more private than the rooms along the bus path.

I wondering the exact same thing for our April stay at AKL. Recently someone posted photos of the standard views, but I could not find the link again. Some views are pretty bad...I'm a bit concerned because we will check in until about 7:30 in evening. We'll most likely get whatever is left, but we'll be delighted to be there :)

Last time we were there we had a Savannah view - a very nice one, but that's not in the budget this time. The kids do not want a long walk to the bus anyway..;)

If anyone remembers that photo link, please post? Thanks!!

Perhaps my response is less helpful but I think my request was something like "best possible view with a balcony" and I was upgraded to savannah view for no extra charge.

It is such a lovely resort I'd be happy to look at the parking lot or whatever - many many spots to view animals. A pool view would also seem to be nice (perhaps a bit noisy?).

Here's some pixie dust your way for a good view! :wizard:

I had a room on the Giraffe trail, 4th floor, almost last room on the end. Very quiet because there were only 2 other rooms past us (little foot traffic) and though it is near the bus stop, you could barely hear the buses go by. I really liked that area since it was a quick elevator ride to the pool and food venues and very close to the lobby. The view was of vegetation and part of the parking lot. I would stay in that room again. But it would be even better to be on the 5th floor (3rd floor is ground level.....don't get one of those) I would think.
