AKL Savannah View vs Deluxe Savannah view

Can someone tell me if there is significant difference between these. The website is showing me a difference of $209 for 4 nights for the deluxe savannah view -I am taking my 4yr old- for a girls only trip - and though I intend to spoil her rotten on this trip - (could stay at a moderate for $800 less for 4 days). I also don't want to throw out money either - does the deluxe savannah view really that much better?

I haven't stayed in a deluxe room at AKL but I actually think the view wouldn't be as good because it is higher. The deluxe rooms are on the 5th & 6th floor. Also I think some of them are pool view and that savannah is not guaranteed. Now I could have that confused with concierge rooms. Hopefully someone else can help with that.

But anyway, the other big difference is that the deluxe rooms are a little larger and can sleep 5. Since you won't need that, I'd go with regular savannah room.

I was just upgraded for free from savannah to 'deluxe' savannah last weekend. The only difference in the rooms is 40 sq ft of extra space (I even called down and asked, because the room didn't look any different to me than regular savannah). My room was on the 5th floor, zebra trail, right in front of the watering hole. I could see the animals just fine, although there weren't many animals out, probably due to the colder temps the week before. The room did seem a bit larger, but when I stayed regular savannah with only DS, we had plenty of room - personally I wouldn't have paid more for the extra few feet of room width. I don't think the deluxe rooms have any better views than regular savannah other than being on the higher floors - we were on 3rd floor last time in the same location and loved it! Have a wonderful trip, AKL is one of my favorite resorts and I actually miss it since joining DVC - that's why I went back for the night before flying out of Orlando - heaven !!

I would say stay with the regular savannah view room! If it's just the 2 of you, you don't need the extra room... and, IMHO, higher up isn't better at AKL. We were on the 2nd floor and it felt like the animals were RIGHT outside our room! In fact, my daughter opened the curtains and said "mommy, there's a giraffe looking in our room"... that certainly won't happen on the higher floors.

The deluxe refers to the size of the room and not the view. We have stayed at the AKL five times since it opened in April of 2001. Two of those trips were in deluxe savanna view concierge rooms. They were on the Zebra Trail overloooking the Arusha Savanna. We just returned on Jan 28th from a stay in a third floor regular savanna view room on the Zebra Trail overlooking the Uzima Savanna. Both views while different were great. I would not spend the extra money for a "deluxe" room at the AKL for just you and your daughter. I am sure you will have a great time.

We have stayed in both, and we preferred the regular room because it was closer to the animals. I was going to surprise my DH with the deluxe room, but after he and my dd's commented on how they liked our first trip room better, I never told him I had actually spent more on the second trip room!
