Ok so we're gonig in September to the AKL. I was told we can call about a week ahead to request our rooms as they choose 7 days before your trip:
1. is this true?
2. If so, which is area has the best views?

Thanks guys!

you can call; however, whether or not they do anything with your request at that time is another question!

I was told that you merely need to make your request with the original booking and that's it. I asked about faxing the week prior and the general concensus was that the CMs don't look at the faxes so why bother! And, having experienced their inadequate check in service two weeks ago, I can't imagine them having time to look at the faxes either!

Re room location, I guess it's a bit of personal preference regarding what animals you'd like to see most. On the top of our list were giraffes and zebras so we chose the Arusha Savanna - Zebra trail. We also were pleased to have a view from the 2nd floor so we didn't have to look through the tree tops down on the animals. Also, having taken a private safari there on all three savannas, we were VERY pleased with our choice! The only thing that may have pulled me into wanting a different savanna was the fact that there was a baby giraffe on a different savanna (Uzima I believe) that was just placed there around the end of April so he was as cute as a button. And, there was a baby zebra on a savanna (not sure but I think it was the Sunset savanna). So if I was into seeing babies, I might've picked one of the other two savannas for that reason. However, the other selling point of the Arusha savanna is that it makes it closer to get to the Pool and ALL of the restaurants! So, we didn't have to walk as far! We were 1/2 way down the Zebra trail (near the pool elevator) which we felt was an excellent location because if we were any closer to the lobby, we'd have a big view of Arusha rock and a little view of the savanna; any further down the zebra trail past the pool elevator and we'd have more savanna view (which wasn't necessary) and a LONG walk from the lobby! We thought our location was perfect.

We were in room 2501; PM me if you want to see a couple of pix of the savanna from our savanna view room.

Zebra Trail / Uzima Savanna is the section we prefer. Every time we've had that section we see all the animals. Last December we got the Arusha Savanna facing the construction and there were NO ANIMALS the 2 days we stayed there (we asked to move to another room). It's as if the construction was scaring them away.

Room requests are just that, requests. It doesn't mean anything. You need to ask for the section you'd like when you're checking in. Simply tell them where you'd like to stay and they'll see if there is availability.

hmmm, I never saw the construction from my room (2501). were you at one end or te other rather in the middle? We had Zebras, giraffes, gemsbok and other animals EVERY day 5/2 - 5/6. They told us they feed 2x a day and we saw them at those times as well as other times thoughout the day.

I was on the Arusha Savannah, room 23xx (don't remember room number). I was directly facing the construction. It was awful. I would have hated to pay for a Savanna view room and saw nothing. Thank goodness we were moved.
