Can someone please fill me in on the Safari times and if a park pass is required or just the safari fee.

I might be wrong but the AKL safari is only for conceirge level guests and there is a charge.

Posters?

The Safari is held Tuesdays and Saturdays. You DO need to also have entrance to the park for that day. The charge is, I believe, $49.95 per adult and $24.95 per child.
As mentioned, it is available to AKL Concierge guests only and must be booked through AKL Itinerary Planning.

I just returned from the Sunrise Safari and we had to be in the concierge lounge between 6:45 and 7:10 a.m. We had to have park passes which were swiped at the concierge desk. There is also a Sunset Safari which takes you out on the AKL Savannah at dusk to get closer to the animals, ending with a meal at Jiko. This one is more expensive and is limited to those 16 and older. Either way, you can't go wrong. We saw tons of animals, including the one-year old male elephant. (we also saw the new baby elephant on a backstage AK tour! she was so cute)

Tony…. We have a “Backstage Safari” tour reserved for October. The tour meets 8:00am by Guest Relations at the AK. Anyone can book this tour. It is head Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. The cost is $65.00 per person and you do need an AK park ticket for this tour.

What is the difference between the AKL sunrise safari and the backstage safari available to all guests???

Thank you for the information. We are considering AKL for an upcomming trip.

BTW - My DS (age 10) is an animal lover and his favorite part of our last trip was seeing Big Red/Little Red. He still talks about that one! That was just the basic Safari ride at AK not a special one.

Hi. Here is some info from allearsnet.com re. the AKL Sunrise Safari:

"Sunrise Safari Breakfast Adventure is available to concierge guests only. The tour, along the safari ride path, lasts about 45 minutes and includes multiple stops so that you can stand up and take many pictures. Each of the animals along the way is described in great detail, since there is plenty of time. The Adventure is available on Tuesdays and Saturdays.

After the Safari, you go to Tusker House for a breakfast buffet which includes both standard American and African items. Each person also gets a FastPass to Kilimanjaro Safari to experience it "the regular way".

Bill Leska writes: We just returned from a six night stay at AKL, where we did the Sunrise Safari twice. It was that great! Here are a couple of updates you may want to consider:

The price is now just a shade less than $50 per person, including tax. (Our total for three people was $149.xx.) The fact sheet says it's $39.95. It leaves the AKL at 7:30, not 6:30 as shown. (I imagine that this would probably vary with season, the park's opening time, etc., but for our trip, it left at 7:30.)

The fact sheet said that there was a limit of 28 persons. This wasn't the case for either of our safaris. One of them had 55 people and the other had about 50. However, there does appear to be a limit to the number of people: We went on the safari on a Saturday and like it so much, we booked it again for the following Tuesday. As the Concierge was setting things up, he mentioned that it looked good, because there wasn't anyone on the waiting list. (Having a waiting list indicates to me that there is a limit of some kind.)

As I mentioned, we had a great time on the safari and would HIGHLY recommend it to anyone who enjoys the Animal Kingdom's Kilimanjaro Safari. The Sunrise Safaris were the highlight of our trip. (7/04)

The group leaves AKL at 6:30am and you are transported to the Animal Kingdom's Kilimanjaro Safari area.

It can be booked up to 90 days out, by contacting AKL concierge directly (once you have your room reservation)."

And here is some info from allearsnet.com re. the AK Backstage Safari:

"Backstage Safari Tour
Animal Kingdom

Find out what happens behind-the-scenes at Animal Kingdom. You'll get an insider's look at the innovative ways that we are meeting challenges in areas such as conservation, animal nutrition and medicine, animal care and behavioral studies. Highlights include visits to: backstage animal housing areas to meet some of our keepers and learn how we care for our animals on a daily basis; the Animal Nutrition Center, where all of our animal's diets are prepared; our state-of-the-art Veterinary Hospital and Animal Programs Administration to learn how we are constantly seeking new ways to ensure our animal's health and well being. This program takes place entirely behind the scenes.

Animal viewing is extremely limited. No photography will be allowed backstage.

This 3 hour tour is offered Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. You must be 16 years of age or older.

ABSOLUTELY INACCURATE INFO!!

You DO need a park pass, and the time it leaves varies by season.

You won't be able to do the Backstage Safari, the minimum age is 16.

The backstage safari is much more technical, most of the tour is backstage. You actually go through some of the buildings, the feed building and the Rhino building for example, and there's even a bit of classroom time. It's not all about "the cute animals" which is what the safari is more geared toweards, but more geared towards zookeeping and animal husbandry.

The Sunrise Safari is nice, and although you are taken to the sarafi ride through the backstage area, you are on the bus the entire time and really see nothing "backstage". It's more a chance to observe the animals on the safari at a slower pace allowing ample times for photo's and asking questions of your guide.
