AKL room with standard view

Never stayed at the AKL---like the idea but the only room we can afford is the standard view overlooking the parking lot. Is it worth it or should we just stay at the POFQ again?

FWIW, I have never stayed there (until 28 days from now in a Savahanna view!) but I have heard mixed things about those rooms. Sometimes there are great views and lots of animals, sometimes not so much. I have read that the resort has great public viewing areas that provide awesome places to check out the animals. I believe there are even night vision goggles for use in some areas!

We can't wait to check it out!

Remember its WDW.... there is no such thing as a bad time!

The standard room is still nice, just because it is such a great resort, plus there are plenty of places to sit and relax and watch the animals.

I was able to book a pool view room for an upcoming trip - and I think it was only $10 more a night. The views look beautiful, they're close to the lobby/pool/restaurants and at least you know you won't be overlooking a parking lot in a room that's really far from everything. I'm actually very satisfied with our pool view (at least now, before our trip ).

I'd stay deluxe over a moderate any day. We love AKL and the resort is worth it even for standard view in my opinion.

We have stayed in Standard view, Pool view and Savannah view rooms. (Can you tell this is our favorite resort?)

The Savannah view - we didn't see many animals. We saw the cattle and some birds.

The Pool view - overlooks the pool w/lots of foliage. Kind of gives a greater sense of privacy.

The Standard view - saw more animals from our room than we did when we paid for the Savannah room. Not all Standard view rooms overlook the parking lot. Not all Standard view rooms overlook the Savannahs.

We actually prefer to view the animals from the public viewing areas. We can see a bigger variety of animals from the public viewing areas.

IMHO, you will be just fine in a Standard view room.

The resort is awesome.

We stayed in a standard room at AKL two months ago and we loved it. It is a beautiful resort. We spent so little time in our room. We were at the parks or at the pool most of the time. For us, paying extra for a view is not worth the extra money.

I have to say that every time I've stayed savanna view, I've always had great animal viewing. But the pool view was also really wonderful.

I've priced the difference between standard and pool view many times for clients, and it's only a small difference. Would you be able to do the little bit extra for pool view?

Regardless, there are TONS of viewing areas all over the resort - you can even have animal viewing from the pool area. It's our home resort for DVC and our favorite resort overall. If you can afford to stay there, you should absolutely do it!

I haven't stayed POFQ, but have stayed twice at AKL. It is one of my happy places! I'd say YES, stay in a standard room. The resort is really great and feels like you are a million miles away on safari. Go and enjoy AKL!

Last year we stayed in a pool view because the price difference from standard view was minimal. We enjoyed the pool view. Much better than taking a chance on a parking lot view IMO.

Yes, there are some value rooms that are slightly smaller and are at the front of the resort. The value rooms will have either a pool, savanna or parking lot view (you don't get to pick).

We've only stayed in savanna view rooms so I can't comment on the standard rooms, but, unless you book a water view room at POFQ you are probably looking at a parking lot anyway. I really like POFQ, I've stayed there quite a few times, but I love AKL. I think it is a great resort if you are going to take advantage of what it is has to offer (on site activities, animal viewing areas, pools). There is so much to do at the resort that the parking lot view would only be an issue if having the balcony was a big deal to you.

I recommend the AK option...try somethng new... We love this resort. There are lots of places to see the animals other than your hotel room. Plus, they have lots of great activities at the reosrt for the kids. As a matter of fact, they have great activites for the adults , too

Yes, there are 2 values that have parking lot view - it's the luck of the draw!

We've done value studios twice - once we got savanna and once we got pool. But the savanna view in the value ended up being our best savanna view experience ever! Better than the two times I had Arusha view.

This makes me excited and hopeful for our trip in June! We have a Standard 1BR booked at Kidani--anyone know what types of views you can get with that?

Granted, if I am stuck looking at the parking lot I will be JUST FINE.

We just returned from our stay at AKL - keep your reservaton there! The hotel is amazing. We were upgraded to a Savanna view room, but I would stay there again without that view in a heartbeat, and I don't think I would pay the extra for the view next time either. There are great public viewing areas around the resort.

We were NOT happy with our AKL standard-view room. We had a view of ROOFTOPS from our balcony. The room didn't seem any larger than the ones we have stayed in at Coronado Springs. The furniture is huge and takes up ALOT of room. The public viewing areas were not all that convenient either IMO. I would think there would be MORE opportunity to see them from your own balcony.
If we ever stay at AKL again we will pay the extra for the Savaanah view. We are just not that lucky when it comes to upgrades.
Just a review with a different experience.

We've never had a standard view but we love AKL; it's one of our favorites. Given the choice of Deluxe standard view or a moderate I would choose the Deluxe every time.

I completely agree.

AKL is such an incredible resort no matter the view, and a deluxe will always be chosen over a moderate for us. We'd rather go fewer times and stay deluxe
