well after going back and forth and back and forth with hubby. we have decided to splurge and stay at AKL ... this will be our first time staying deluxe...with such a huge difference in room price cost (we are staying 8 nights) we decided not to stay savannah view. so we were thinking about water view...should i request the pool (or will that be loud) we will have our 3 sons with us, one only being 15 months or the flamingo view? also with having three little ones would like to be close as we can to bus stops, restaurants etc....any room ideas?? can i request a certain floor/area? thanks i bunch...i can't wait!!!!

There is just standard and pool-view (if you aren't facing a savanna). Most people say the pool view rooms are a much better view than standard (parking lot view) for not all that much more money. Plus, it's a big resort, but all the pool-view rooms are near the lobby, the pool, and the elevators.

The 3rd floor is the same floor as the lobby, so you wouldn't even have to use an elevator except to go down to the pool or the Mara. 1st floor rooms are the same level as the pool. I would guess that it would be quieter higher up, though.

AKL is a gorgeous, amazing, unique resort -- Enjoy! :cloud9:

Hope this helps!

We stayed in a Pool View Room at AKL and couldn't have been happier. We were on the 4th floor halfway between the lobby and the elevators down the zebra trail. This gave us easy access to all the restaurants and the pool without having constant foot traffic going past our room. I didn't notice a huge amount of noise coming from the pool area, but I wasn't traveling with a young child, so my threshold was likely higher.

In my opinion, you can't really get a bad location with a pool view room, because they're all convenient to the pool area and the lobby. Savanna view rooms can be very far walks from the lobby.

I think the 4th floor in the highest you can go with a regular room, because the 5th floor is designated Concierge Level.
Even though the savanna view rooms are AKL's claim to fame, I don't regret saving a little money by staying in a pool view.

I don't know how much you can actually request anymore. I think you can still put requests on your reservation when you make them, but I don't know how much they pay attention to them. If I was in your situation, I would make it simple and request a "high floor" (if it's an option). If you try to be too specific, then you may run into a problem if what you want isn't available. If you request a high floor, then that will likely do more to remove you from the hustle and bustle of the pool area than any other location around the pool would do.

Here's a little gem...there is an area that is considered "standard" but actually has a lovely partial savannah view. ;) There are a few mehanicals and things around, but you still get a fab (and free!) view of the animals! Also really well located in the resort.
Request rooms between number 2210-2222 and 3210-3222

we stayed savannah view, lovely. If you can do that, Id do it.....But

Still we would not return.
Longest rides to parks ever, the food court was limited in choices (and obviously African themed) and with a pickier eater, did not work for us at all, the interior corridor style with food carts and room service trays that we tripped over... was unreasonable (was it just because it was the Xmas Holiday??) , the whole resort felt "dreary/dark" to us, not the bright sunshiny fla we were so very used too,
though lovely to see the animals, anyone can go to the viewing areas or walk around, and see the same thing for free, any time they want. So, though the animals were right outside our balcony in the morning, we really are Park people and as such, the limited transportation (bus only ...no boat, monorail. no easy dtd area option etc) really dampened the experience.
I think that for a Deluxe property, there are better options, but thats just our experience and our preference. Its always best to know, research ...what to expect, and what is best for your family.

Op, I wish you a MAGICAL trip with your family!

thanks everyone for the wonderful info!!! much appreciated!!!!! to the previous responder...we are not park people LOL. we plan to spend a lot of time at the resort just relaxing.... so thats why we picked AKL ... and it is far cheaper then the other resorts! thanks everyone!!

We booked a pool view for Aug, and requested upper floor, Zebra Trail. We'll see how it goes. Last stay we had a savanna room on Sunset Savanna.

Another vote for Zebra trail-Pool view rooms, high floor. We had an amazing pool view room; close to the lobby, pool and Mara. It worked out perfect for us. I know AKL is farther away from the parks, except AK, but we knew that ahead of time and planned for it.

This is a great resort for haning around, there is so much to do and see.
