AKL room question

In order to make our upcoming trip all the more special I've split our stay between POFQ (kids get their pool experience and food court) and AKL pool view (mommy gets her deluxe experience). Anyway last year we were in a suite at the Contemporary and one of the suite rooms did not have one of those little flip latches at the top of the door. My son is Autistic and he escaped the room twice and we had to chase him down the hall... fortunatly we heard the door so he didn't get far and we never lost sight of him. (at night we had to put a suitcase in front of the door) My questions are:

1-do the AKL rooms have those little flip latches thus making the room unescapable.

2-do the rooms on the 1st floor just have walk out patios (like the first floor patios at the contemporary garden wing) or are there balcony like railings on them... this would bring the problem of sliding door escape. He wouldn't climb a railing but I'm afraid of him walking off the patio to try to get to the pool.

Thanks in advance!

As for the patio, none of the rooms are walk out, in fact I think the 3rd floor is the lowest there are rooms on because of the animals. On the lock question, I'm not totally sure, but I really don't remember a throw latch, just a deadbolt.

Thank you. I figured that because of the animals there wouldn't be a walk out...but wasn't sure about the pool side.

On the deadbolts... do you remember if these were the kind that automatically opened when you turned the doorknob? This was how the one at the Contemporary was and all he had to do was open the door. LOL! It's funny... some people use locks to keep people out... we use them to keep DS IN!

AKL pool view rooms on the first floor are all patio rooms. I am unsure of the lock situation on these rooms. I do know the upper floors all have the manual locks on them. You can indeed walk out of a first floor room and straight to the pool, with an unlocked door.

You can make a medical request to be on one of the upper floors, if that helps.

Deadbolts on the doors and on the sliders are manual, not automatic opening. It's a simple flip bolt on the door, a lift and fip on the sliders.

Thank you. I would definitly feel more comfortable not on the ground floor. With being able to see the pool would be too much of a temptation for him to try to go by himself. I may try to go ahead and upgrade to a savannah view if they have one available at least the pool wouldn't be right there. As far as requesting to not be on the ground floor... shall I fax that? phone in? or just make the request when I arrive?

Thanks!

I stayed there last week.... The doors have a deadbolt that does not open when you turn the knob, you have to manually lock and unlock it. There is a flip latch at the top, as well. Can't answer about the patios... we were on an upper floor.

I would definitely phone your request in as medically necessary. They'll guarantee your request right on your reservation if it's for a medical reason.

I know there are definitely the flip latches on the top of the doors...the lowest floor on the savannah side is second floor. We stayed on the lowest floor w/ a pool view which was third floor because we had the restaurant Jiko below us and next to that was the workout facility. Straight from the pool towards the lobby is the Mara and Simba's clubhouse and I am trying to remember if there are any first floor patio rooms near the jacuzzi/ giraffe lookout...I'm going to say there are, but overall, there are very few first floor patio rooms as opposed to many floors of rooms that overlook the pool.

We've stayed at AKL three times and wish we were there now, it is so spectacular! Fun to think about.

There is actually a little mini alarm the size of a lighter, Teeny bit bigger maybe? That you can attach to the door with velcro. If he opens the door the little alarm goes off warning you. I did a Google child safety search and it came right up. If I can find it myself I will post the info for you.

I just found some on Google. At the Home Security store. 1-888-501-7870. Item number 80201. Mace entrance alert. For ($ 9.95)
