Scenario:
  • 2 adults, 1 5 year old boy
  • Adults like to try new, exotic things, child will be picky but will survive
  • Visiting AKL for the first time with no plans to return in the foreseeable future
  • Casual meal for breakfast or dinner only
  • Paying out of pocket
  • Only other TS on the trip is Crystal Palace breakfast
Which one restaurant at AKL would you choose, and what would you order?

i would add - boma for dinner. breakfast is great but for a "one shot" plan, i would get dinner to try more varieties of food.

don't forget to arrive a little early to look at the animals on the savanna before it gets dark...

I would highly recommend Sanaa. Boma is wonderful, but the food is better at Sanaa. Sanaa is also less hectic and more relaxing than Boma. There are big picture windows with views of the Savannah and some of the coolest decor anywhere in Disney.

The food at Sanaa is amazing and they have some plain items on the kids menu so I think your will be fine. I would try the bread service, you get three breads and 3 dips and it's so delicious. I really love the salad sampler and the slow cooked in gravy trio. Desserts are usually pretty good too.

I agree with both recommendations. Boma is without doubt the best buffet on site, and the variety of flavors is wide, while still providing standard foods for picky palate. Their soups are wonderful. Sanaa is one of our favourite non signature a la carte restaurants. Spicy foods for the more adventurous ( you MUST try their bread service with all the dipping sauces) and a few entrees for those who prefer bland. Plus the ambiance is great.

If there is any way to do both, then do it!

Boma for dinner. IMHO the best buffet on the planet. Lots of exotic (for WDW) offerings and plenty for a picky child (or adult that eats like a picky child.

Bona and Sanaa are both great. Took a picky 3 year old and had no issues.

We ate at Boma and Sanaa in July with an 8 year old and a 2 year old. We loved both for the food and the atmosphere. My children are not big eaters, so neither ate much at either restaurant.

I might lean more toward Sanaa if you are concerned about cost and if your son is not going to eat much. It is a little painful to pay for an expensive buffet meal for a child (Boma) who eats a few bites of fruit and veggies and some bread.

At Sanaa, you can split meals and share appetizers and save quite a bit over a Boma dinner. The bread service alone nearly filled my mom and me up. They had a kids meal Mahi Mahi that was quite good, and you can eat what the child does not.

We loved our table next to the window where we watched a gray crowned crane preen for our entire meal.

Both are awesome. Sanaa can be less expensive. Check out the menus and compare prices.

Sanaa. The kids will love the more plain food and the views of the animals on the Savanna. You will love the exotic food, the decor and the whole mood of the resort as a whole. Sanaa is at Kidani. :D

Dinner at Boma is by far my favorite eating experience onsite and it is actually one of my favorite restaurants in the real world (and I normally avoid buffets like the plague). I like all of the AKL restaurants but Boma is special. The soups are phenomenal and there are so many dishes that are unlike anything you can get elsewhere without really searching. There is also plenty to eat for the pickier members of the party.

Sanaa is also great but a buffet might be easier for the adults to try exotic while also feeding the little one. Also love Jiko but it is way too expensive for OOP (plus I can never decide what to order).
