I haven't stayed at AKL before but thought we might make a trip over for supper. I hear the food is good, but wondered what you can see while there. For instance, any chance in seeing any animals?

We love the AKL. Whenever we eat there we usually give ourselves an hour or so to go out to the savannahs and watch the animals. You can also spend an hour or so walking around just looking at the lodge itself.

AKL has a counter service food court type place and 2 table services, a buffet and a signature dining restaurant. You certainly don't have to dine there to visit and check out the Savannah. You can walk through the amazing lobby and out onto the observation area and see if you can spot some animals grazing. Their gift shop is also one of the best on property as they have a lot of cool African items and animal stuff.

If you think of dining there, Boma is a family friendly buffet with lots of unique items and Jiko is a very good, upscale restaurant with an amazing African wine list and very unique dishes.

The AKL lobby is amazing and it's a easy thing (if you get there prior to dark) to see the animals. Just walk straight thru the lobby to the immense back wall. There are stairs leading down to doors to go out.

Have eaten at both Jiko and Boma. Loved both and are going back to Boma this fall.;)

I LOVE Bomahs, its a buffet style resturant with amazing Affrican cousine! GREAT varitey and GREAT dessert table. It is so good! there is a kids section too if they don't like the main food selection. Also do allow your time to walk around the resort and look at the animals. The lobby is AMAZING they have a great vewing area of the savana and the animals! pirate:

so glad you posted this question...I was just searching the site for reviews for AKL restaurants. I was hoping to head over there for dinner after going to AK. boma's is probably were we will go with my picky dd7 and dd4. Heading to WDW in Nov. and haven't visited this property yet, so want to give it a go this trip.

I have never been disappointed in a meal at either of the TS restraunts at AKL. Boma was quite good, good variety and interesting food. Jiko is my favorite restraunt at WDW.

That is exactly what I needed to know. It's just going to be myself and DD10and we are staying at POR part of the week and WL the other part. I've heard so much about the savannahs. It just sounds so relaxing. I am so glad that there is a place for us to watch the animals even though we're not staying there. This will be a great way to wind down and I am determined that we're both going to stop and smell the roses (so to speak) and see the things that we've breezed past in our other trips and never knew existed. I think we're going to try Boma as well. It's a little different menu than I am used to but that's what makes vacation fun.

You might want to go to the Resorts Board, because some of the Animal Kingdom Lodge is closed for a while, and some of the animals have been moved due to construction of the DVC villas. I'm not sure what the timeframe is.

I vote for the restaurants at AKL! Even if the animals are moved while you want to eat there. The resort is so beautifully done! Just to see it is amazing!

Both Boma and Jiko are great. You can't go wrong at either!

I am a very early planner!! We won't be there until next year. I just get so excited about it that I have to plan a year in advance!
