AKL Questions

Hoping some AKL experts can answer a question about the AKL. I've read the faq and some other pages about the AKL, but I have something I'd like to know about and I'd be thankful for any info.

I've heard they have a CM that reads stories around the firepit and about the cookie decorating in Boma, but is there any other special things they do there that we should be on the look out for? We'll be there for 9 days and we'll have a few days just to hang out around the hotel (hubbies only request a little r&r LOL).

Also how do you find out what times they do things around the resort?

We stayed at AKL last week. (I love it there!) On the back of the map you get when they show you where your room is you'll find a list of activities. These were listed on our map:

Animal Tracking, Arusha Rock, 12:00-2:00 pm
Recreational Activities, Lobby, 12:30 pm and Uzima Pool 2:15 pm
Cookie Decorating, Boma, 1:00 pm
Pelican Feedings, Arusha rock, 1:00 pm
Junior Researcher, by Flamingo pond at pool, 3:00 pm
Culinary Tour of Africa, Ogun's Firepit, 4:00 pm
The Music of the Savanna, Lobby, 5:00 pm Fri, Sat, Sun
Poolside Activities, Uzima Pool, 4:30 pm
Storytelling, Arusha Rock Firepit, 6:30 pm
Games with Savanna Guides, Sunset Overlook, 7:30 pm

Unfortunately, we weren't around to do any of these things other than the night vision viewing, so I can't comment on the activities themselves.

When we were there last summer the stories around the firepit weren't read. It was a CM who told stories. The stories we heard were kind of like African folk tales.

Hi,

You can pick up "Hidden Mickey Safari" sheets from guest services and follow the clues to find all the hidden mickeys around the hotel.

The one on the "vines" is tough to spot. Once you have them all - return your sheet to guest services for a little reward..

Also in the rooms they provide a cheat sheet with animals and descriptions - you can check them off as you spot them on the savanna.

Around the pool they do things with the kids... my daughter made safari animal fridge magnets one afternoon and another day they were teaching the kids to dance.

It looks like there will be lots of neat things to do with my dd while daddy is relaxing. We've been to WDW so many times that if we don't spend 100% of our time in the parks it's ok. Plus we always try to spend a little time in the hotel, so we can discover what they have to offer.

I'm really glad to hear about the "Hidden Mickey Safari" I know WL does something simular and I think my dd will love doing that. She tries to find hidden Mickey's around home too. LOL

Anyway those are the answers I was hoping for. Thanks a ton!!!

Pammy, the CM's played board games with the kids in the lobby and also had fun games by the pool, looking for hidden Mickey's in teams. They also played ball in the pool. They also have binoculars at night on the Arusha Rock savanna to view the animals. There is an arcade and if you have a cool night, grab a hot chocolate and sit around the firepit in the lobby. Have fun!!

We stayed at the AKL in Aug. Me, my mom, and DD (2 @ the time) had a ball doing the Hidden Mickey Safari. My other DD (11 @ the time) and her friend who came with us did a nature type game finding the plant that matches the pictures. We also did the night vision animal viewing.
