AKL Questions

First, thanks to all who are helping me decide which resort to stay in. I swear I change my mind on a daily basis! And today I am wondering about AKL, lol...and now my never ending questions!

1) Good resort for families? My family has an 11 and 8 year old, sister's family has a 3 year old on her first trip!

2) We want to be close to the pool, pool bar (grownups, lol), free drink refill (kids) area and bus stop. I will reserve poolview but any specific area/wing?

3) Is there a grocery store close to AKL so we can stock up on snacks? Planning on renting a fridge and requesting a coffeemaker. Likely will go with Tiffany Town Car for our transfers but if not, are there taxi's to take us to a store?

4) Will the kids be able to get spaghetti w/ butter, chix tenders, hotdogs, grilled cheese etc. within AKL?

5) Resort to park transportation...is it good, bad, or in between? I have no problem waiting 15 minutes or so for a ride. Actually, the reason I am thinking of staying at AKL is because they are not sharing buses with another resort.

6) Personal experience with the Kids Club? My kids begged for, and are HRH Camp Lil' Rock addicts, lol! My sister would NEVER use in room babysitting. Ridiculous, yes, but....I will gladly fill her in on our night at PI!

Came back from akl 3 weeks ago. Loved it. The bus service, used it once to akl it was efficient, waited 10 min for it.

Grocery store: We used publix about l0 minutes from akl. I would have to ask my hubby for the directions if he remembers, maybe someone else might know this.

There were so many nice places to grab a lounge, nooks and crannies or right around the pool.
Very nice resort, we loved our stay there, we had a savannah view, we were mesmerised by the animals on the savannah, three ankole cattle laid right under our balcony, at 7 every morning the animal keepers would come and put food in the trees, on the ground and it was fun watching the giraffes trying to steal more food out of the back of the pickups, one fellow gave the giraffe a hug and hand fed it. It was wonderful.

AKL is WONDERFUL for families! We stayed with DD -9, DS -4, and 2 nieces 1 & 2 yrs old. Worked out great for all of us. If you request pool view, you will automatically be in the wing that is closest to pool, restaurants, bus stop, etc. There are activites planned throughout the day to amuse the older kids if you want to have a resort day. The buses were good. never waited longer than 10 min for one. However I would caution that the rides can be somewhat long because AKL is pretty far from some areas. The grocery store is out past DD. You would have to take a taxi to get there. There are always taxis available or valet services will call one for you. Can't say I saw any spaghetti for the kids, but definitely chix fingers, hot dogs, hamburgers and grilled cheese. I don't know that coffee makers are available, but I would vote for using the refill cups for your coffee. The coffee at AKL is wonderful! I really enjoyed it. Have a great trip!

We just returned last night. The AKL is great. We requested a room with bunkbeds and got a free upgrade to savannah view (rm.#2259) from standard. It was on the sunset savannah. Great upgrade room, but I'd be unhappy if I'd paid for savannah view and got this room. Your family should love this place, lots to do and lots to see. Buses to parks were great, never waited more then 10 minutes. I would ask for pool view if I go back again. PM me a # if you'd like me to fax the resort rooms location sheet they give you at check-in.

Shoot! I am at home and don't have a fax. Could you scan the map and post it on the AKL general info. thread? To be honest, I know I won't pay for a Savannah view and would likely say no thanks to a free upgrade. We just are not in the room long enough to enjoy the view. I am really hoping for a ground level pool view though. Hope everything about your trip was awesome!

Margaritabnl- I don't have a scanner, but I do have a digital camera. I'd be happy to take a picture of it, I'm not sure how to get it on to a post, could you advise me on how to do it?

I would love to tell you how to do that but I can't! I don't have a digital camera and have no clue how to get the pics on a puter. I do have a scanner and I amaze myself everytime I can figure out how to email a scanned pic!

Boy do I feel stupid, lol. Maybe someone else reading the thread can help us?
