AKL Questions

Heading out to AKL tomorrow (yea!), but need to sort out a few last minute packing decisions:

1. do 1st year Mara mugs qualify for free refills?

2. do the savanna-view level rooms have video inputs? i'd rather not pack the coax-converter for my video ipod

3. how is t-mobile coverage in AKL? I have can tether my blackberry to the laptop for internet access.

4. will 2 small (14" and 12") laptops fit in the room safe?

5. sunset savanna is to be avoided due to the construction, right?

Technically NO, but I don't think anyone will stop you from using it. I bought a new mug last year and it was still worth the cost.

2. do the savanna-view level rooms have video inputs? i'd rather not pack the coax-converter for my video ipod

The two times we stayed there we had input jacks on the front of the TVs... so they probably still do.

3. how is t-mobile coverage in AKL? I have can tether my blackberry to the laptop for internet access.

T-Mobile works pretty well, you might have to move around a bit to find the right spot though. I found that I either have a full set of bars or one... not much middle ground!

4. will 2 small (14" and 12") laptops fit in the room safe?

I think they will fit, I took my MacBook (approx 13X9) last year and it fit with room for more... if they both fit, you probably won't have room for anything else though... but when I put my computer in the safe, it was usually when we were going to the parks so I didn't really have cameras or anything I wanted to leave there anyway.

5. sunset savanna is to be avoided due to the construction, right?

Not sure how the construction is going now... last September it wasn't a big issue at all, we weren't bothered by noise and there wasn't really anything that hindered the beauty of the resort either (even the black curtains on the upper floors in the lobby), but I think at that time one of the Savannas was actually closed and they weren't using the rooms on that trail at all.

Sorry, I only have answers for Q 1 & 5:

1. No, I believe mug use expires after the trip you buy them at. You'll need to purchase the 2008 mug if you want to use that service.

5. I would try to avoid staying in that area due to construction, but I would not avoid visiting it-we saw a very cool giraffe there a few weeks ago!
