AKL pool upgrades?

We are going to the AKL 7/16/05 to 7/27/05 in a standard room. This is the first time we are staying at this resort and my DD8 is so excited! We are hoping for a savanah upgrade, but realize that July is crowded and this may not happen. I've read a couple of posts about people who were not given a savanah upgrade, but then asked how much a pool view upgrade would be when they were checking in. Some say about $10 per night at check in which is a lot less expensive than if you booked it ahead of time. Has anyone else asked how much the pool upgrade would be at check in? I thought maybe it was in that range maybe we could upgrade to the pool if we didn't get the savanah upgrade.

Also, do people prefer the Ostrich or Giraffe trail for standard rooms?

I loved AKL, I would highly recommend a savanah view. The pool is nice, but I would not pay extra to see it (Very Busy and Loud). In all, the hotel is very nice and there are plenty of places to view animals if you do not want to pay for a savanah view.
