AKL or WL in Jan?

Gotta be WL.

The boat to MK takes maybe 10-15 min tops. Why would you need to get there any quicker?

We stayed at AKL last May and LOVED it!! The bus service was incredible - the only slow one was DTD. Other than it, we never waited longer than 10 min to get anywhere (and there were no stops). That being said, we are staying at WL this Jan during the marathon weekend for the access to MK. My girls are 5 and 4, and we didn't want to be stuck at the resort w/o guarantee that we could swim in the mornings until traffic cleared. I'm sad b/c I much prefer the AKL theming, but in the end, practicality won out.

LOL it really does not. It only makes me feel better knowing that no matter what decision I make it seems that it will be a good one.

It seems that generally if someone likes one they also like the other but just perfer one over the other.

I haven't stayed at either, but we had dinner at WL in August and it looks great. We enjoyed the boat ride from MK. I have read many horror stories from AKL people who have been switched to other resorts at the last minute. Also, the noise factor has bothered many. Hopefully it will be done in January, but I wouldn't want to take the chance.
