Trying to decide between a standard room at akl or royal room at por. its me dw and dd3 and she loves animals and everything in the royal rooms so trying to figure our which would be best and its a $400 difference to do akl

I'm a theme person so, I'd let the theme decide -

Remember the rest of POR is not themed towards anything Royal. The resort area looks like the Mansions and Bayou of the old South.

AKL is themed like Africa throughout, with lots of animals worked into the theme.

Also, the AKL lodge rooms will be a bit bigger.

I would vote AKL as there are lots of animal viewing areas the the theme of the other rooms is just a theme. There are also lots of good places to eat at AKL and a balcony. I always vote for Deluxe resort if there is a choice.

We've never stayed at POR, but we loved AKL. The royal rooms look very nice from pics I've seen, but my choice would be AKL for the atmosphere, Boma, and larger room :goodvibes.

For me the deciding factor would be how much time do you plan on spending at your resort? If you are in the Parks most of the time, I would save the $$ and choose the POR.
We spent 9 glorious days at AKL in May - We spent a ton of time there and it was worth every penny. Our kids spent hours enjoying the crafts, pool activities, bead activities, movies by the pool and watching the animals. We spent many mornings and afternoons at the pool soaking up the atmosphere and relaxing. For us AKL is a *vacation* within* a vacation.:lovestruc

I have stayed at both, the POR Royal Suites are wonderful for a girl that loves the Princesses. The rooms in a moderate and AKL are comparable there is no real difference in the size of the rooms, the AKL room theming is a bit dark. The experience of seeing animals walking around from your balcony and the night-vision activity for kids was a winner. My DS enjoyed the pool and the food court much more at POR. There is not much variety to choose from at AKL (from a kid point of view). The lobby and resort area walkways at AKL are awe-inspiring. We normally end up choosing POR for its more kid-friendly possibilities, proximity to DTD and the rest of the parks and the bus service (the AKL bus rides are a bit long since the resort is so far away from the majority of parks). Either would be a great choice, we liked both and even when we stay at the other we always go visit to check out what's happening at the resort so that may be a happy compromise as well.:wizard:

Stayed at both and would pick POR. Took DD6 in June and stayed in Royal Room. DD still talks about it and we've stayed at several Deluxe properties. Room is a bit smaller but it was fun for DD and the rest of the property is so beautiful. Food court is amazing too.....so much selection.

You probably know this but standard view does not give you a view of the animals from your room. 9 years ago we got a free upgrade to Savannah View, and 8 years ago my parents also got a free upgrade to Savannah. Even if you don't get an upgrade you can see the animals from the resorts public viewing areas which is still very nice. Also, the zero entry pool will be great for 3 year old. I haven't stayed at POR since it was called Dixie Landing but it's nice there. I would vote for AKL standard view. I would also consider a monorail resort with a 3 year old (quick access for mid day nap from Magic Kingdom). Have fun!

Because your daughter is three I think you could just decide which one you would enjoy the most and go with it - I think she will love either one really at 3 yrs. Seeing the animals would be really great for that age I think.:goodvibes If she is really into princesses when she is five or six then I would say definitely go for the princess room then and she will really appreciate it!princess:princess:princess: Either way she will have a wonderful time!!:)

Just got back from a six-night stay at AKL and it was AMAZING! I think you would love it!

AKL is great. The viewings of the animals is an experience you will never forgot. And its one of the cheapest deluxes.

Have a great time wherever you decide to go!!!

Wow what a great dilemna!!! AKL is my absolute favorite resort and I love staying there. However just came back from POR (we stayed in a garden Manion room) and I kept thinking how great it would be to go back and stay in one of the Royal Rooms. As much as I love AKL, if my daughter was 3, I would pick POR and save the $400. You can always go back to AKL and stay next time, or when she is a little bit older. Sadly my kids don't really remember trips they took when they were 3, except for random memories. Having pictures from the trips, helps their memories:rotfl:. BTW, you won't go wrong with either option. They both are great resorts!!! Oh, wish I was in your shoes, since I'm already trying to figure out a way to go back. Have fun planning.
