AKL or Poly?

When we were applying a code to our existing POR reservations in March 05, we went ahead and made another one for Poly Garden view Dec. 13-16. We usually go in beginning of Dec for convention but it was moved to March. However, there was an AKL Standard Savannah room available that was about $60 cheaper per night. Did we make the right decision? Which do you like better? It's just my DH and me. He wants to stay at AKL and I want to stay at Poly (I've been wanting to stay there a long time). This is our Christmas present to each other. We've never stayed at either one. If we stay at Poly, we'll definitely make use of the monorail and go to the parks. After we finally decide, then I'll ask which building to request. Thank you!

:Pinkbounc Excited for either one!

Another win-win scenario. Both are great resorts.

If it's your first time at a monorail resort, just stick with your choice.

AKL is also a spectacular resort, but the convenience of a monorail and being a quick jaunt from MK, GF and CR is really wonderful. Especially if you plan evening events at the other hotels, such as viewing their Christmas decoration and such.

I am including "Tikiman's Polynesian Website" that is so famous on this board.

Enjoy...

Well thats a hard decision, lol. We do like the Poly--bigger rooms, a daybed in there without having to upgrade to a deluxe room, love the tropical theme. OTOH I love AKL. Its so cool to see the animals around and the resort is beautiful. I also like thats its all one building, instead of seperate buildings like the Poly, so if its raining or whatever once your inside you dont have to go back out in it. I really dont think you can go wrong either way.

I got engaged in the Poly....I think it is Tonga building facing the castle. Too cool. And the show on the water at night really surprised us and is too cute (around 9 be on your balcony). The tiki torches at night are so romantic...and they used to have gardenia bushes everywhere so you could always have a flower for your hair. I am an island girl at heart (lived in Hawaii for many years.)
BUT, I am now officially divorced and so the Polynesian holds sadness for me.
Going on Dec 10 and stayign in a savanahh room at AK. Don't think the rooms look all that hot, but it will be fun to see the giraffes feeding at night under a Disney moon!

If you are already booked into the Poly, try to ask for an upgrade to a lagoon front. Expensive but the view of the castle is priceless. :earseek:

We liked AKL much better because the CM's were so much more helpful! ;)

Cant really go wrong either way, but how can you beat the monorail?

I would say, if you are going to MK and Epcot then stay on the monorail, if not then go relax at AKL and save the money for a time when you are visiting the parks alot.

Are there any "codes" out there that anyone can use? I'd like to stay at a Disney resort (Moderate or better) that first week of March, but would like to spend less than $ 150/night...will be me, DW and DGS. I think my wife found a rate at the WL for about $ 159 or so. Any comments on WL? Best area to stay in there? Thanks for your advice.

I cant comment on codes or areas, but overall the Lodge is a beautiful resort, in my opinion. we have stayed there twice.

The lobby is gorgeous, the rooms were nice, Its very easy to get to the magic Kingdom by boat, and if you have a water view you can see the nightly water pagent.

We leave for our Christmas at the Poly in 17 days so I'm definitely in favor of the Poly!! We love the monorail convenience but also like that there are many dining options very nearby. We'll eat at both Poly sit-downs, also try the GFCafe and Chef Mickey's. I'm not a big fan of the AKL only because it is remote and the dining options hold zero appeal to our family.

If just dh & I were going w/o the kids, ideally I would chose Wilderness Lodge because I adore the look of it and the closeness of MK. Both WL and AKL seem to be the most discounted of the deluxes. Perhaps because the rooms are smaller and only sleep 4.

If you have young children, I would recommend the Polynesian. If your family is older, either resort has its positives so you really can't go wrong. Personally, after staying at both, I prefer the Poly and the monorail. :D
