We have 7:40 ADRs at Boma and I was thinking it would be fun to get night goggles at AKL to look out on the Savannah after dinner. My son thinks this is a cool idea, as any 10 year old would. Then I thought who do I get them from, is this for real, how early do i need to get them or do I need to reserve them. Pretty cool fun and something we have not done before. What's the 411 on this?

Thanks.

I think it's only for people who book the Night Safari tour at $70/person. The night vision goggles are free on the tour though:

There are night vision goggles available at the savanna behind the pool area at Jambo House. You can't check them out to use in other areas - they can only be used at that specific savanna.

We did this when we stayed at AKL last February. It's part of the evening resort activities. There weren't many animals to see and since you share the goggles with anyone else who wants to participate you get limited time with them. Most of the time I fumbled around trying to figure out what I was looking at and then I just handed them on. However, BOMA is awesome - ENJOY THAT and ask at the front desk about the Night Vision goggles. Keep your expectations low.

Nope they aren't talking about the Safari.

They have them out MOST nights at the lodge. There is a CM that will show you how to use them and loan them to you for a bit. Been a couple of years since I've done it. But it was neat.

Just ask when you get to the lodge, they will know if it's happening that night.

There were CMs out there with night vision goggles for anyone who wanted to use them. Totally free.

I actually bought my husband night vision goggles on amazon.com once for a birthday present. He liked them but never used them, hah! I think that would be a super cool present for a child and could keep them very busy during down time, they will most likely spot SOMETHING moving in the dark even if its non-safari animal. I think thats a very cool idea.

This one dan see 50 feet: http://www.amazon.com/Night-Vision-...69355&sr=8-8&keywords=night+vision+binoculars

we also ate at Boma, and it was a lovely end to the evening, the CM there was very friendly and told us loads of information about the animals and her country, we only saw the giraffes but well worth it and its free. it wasn't busy when we were there only us four and one other couple so we had lots of time to look but as pp's have said you have to share goggles with other guests so depending how busy it is to how long you get to use them.

cal:)

This was what we did! A fun evening, a nice walk out behind the lodge, and way fun!

The night vision goggle viewing is great! It's a "must do" if you are at AKL. Sure, there are not that many animals to see and some are lying down (it's at night after all and their probably tiered). Your 10 year old will really like it. Heck, I liked it and I'm in my 40's.

You might have to wait a little as the CMs distribute the goggles among the guests. Plus, you will have to share a pair between your family. However, that is no big deal. Enjoy!

Check out the other free stuff at AKL. I was impressed.

We had done it and love it! The night vision is a free activity. It is a must do. When we did it we arrived with the CM and for a period of time we were the only ones there.
