AKL LITE unofficial FAQ thread#10 - I believe that's known as a 'Jambo Dozen'

Hey everyone... :wave2:

I am surprising my family and staying at AKL 10/30-11/5. They think we are staying at POFQ. I'm sure they will be shocked. There was a room only discount that I couldn't pass up. I've been reading through the thread and there is a lot of great information in here. I booked dinner (which we've done before) and breakfast at Boma. I can't wait to drink the juice. ;)

My DW & I have always wanted to stay here but said we would only if we had a savanna view. Unfortunately, I booked the pool view room because it was only going to cost me about $150 more than the room I had at POFQ. Does anyone have pictures from the balcony of a pool view room?

I'll continue reading and checking in.

Tim

The views we had were kind of obstructed by the trees, but IMO pool view room locations are the BEST! The ones we've had were close to the lobby and made for quick access and around the resort. And a shorter walk back to the room after a long day in the parks. ;) There are lots of places around the resort for viewing animals so I don't think you will ultimately be disappointed in staying her vs POFQ. :thumbsup2

If you check out the photos thread for AKL, someone just posted a picture of the pool view they had. I'm sure there are lots of other photos with that view. I love going through the photo threads - gets me even more excited for our upcoming trip.

leannak - I think going through the photo thread might help you, as well. Some of the photos there are absolutely amazing. I'm contemplating picking up a DSLR so I can take better pictures than I normally do with my iphone.

Thanks for the pictures!!!! I think this will suit us just fine. I am getting really excited and I can't wait to sit out on that balcony and enjoy a cocktail with my DW while the kids are sleeping! :thumbsup2

Good advice. I'll head over there now and see what I can find. :goodvibes

No problem, I hope you have a fabulous time at AKL :)

Somebody please make me feel better about having booked standard view rooms. This is our 5th stay at AKL and we have always stayed pool view, which was not available when we booked. I plan on calling tomorrow to see if there are any upgrades available, but I am traveling with my mother and niece and we want to have adjoining or same hallway rooms. Someone sell me on the standard view !!!!

.....look at it THIS way: standard room at AKL is WA-A-A-A-A-a-AY better than bedroom at home.....:teeth: Of course, I don't have to remind you of all the public viewing areas available at AKL.....

You will not be disappointed! We have stayed in a standard view in the past and loved our stay just as much as when we had savanna view! It's an absolutely beautiful resort to stay in! To me I feel like I am not in the room enough to really enjoy the view! While I love drinking my morning coffee on the balcony watching the animals roam, I found I enjoyed it just as much sitting and looking at the palm trees too!

....plus, you can take the elevator in Giraffe Trail, which goes right down to the pool level, and enjoy your coffee there....:thumbsup2

Are the CL rooms in a certain location of the lodge? I have stayed at AKL 4 times so far but this is my first CL visit

Judy

The Year of Disney:
12/2012 CR
3/2013 AKL
6/2013 BC CL
10/2013 BW CL
11/2013 AKL CL
12/2013 The Swan

Hoping someone here can answer a coffee question I promised to get the answer to?

Is the coffee maker in the villas the same as the one in the standard rooms? Trying to see if the coffee maker in the villas and whatever stash they provide is enough for a family of 3 adults and 3 kids (coffee and hot tea drinkers) or if they should bring a can of coffee and box of tea bags? If so, do they need filters as well?

While I have your undivided attention;)...

Do the stores still have cereal, milk, orange juice, and other breakfast foods that can be bought to eat in the villas? Just wondered if that would be sufficient versus ordering from Garden Grocer if they only want breakfast food (and maybe coffee, tea bags and filters)?

Many thanks in advance!!

The club level rooms are located on the 4th floor close to the lobby (usually the first pod) on either the Kudu or Zebra Trails.

Are they booked DVC or through cash? DVC you won't get new filters and coffee everyday so I'd tell them to bring extra. There are breakfast items in the store but there's not a great deal of choices and they're pricey.

Just 3 sleeps to go! And a couple of questions:

Has Mara switched to Joffreys? (I'll need to pick up Via if not...)
Do they show movies by the pool most nights?
Anyone notice if it has been particularly buggy there? (Someone mentioned bad mosquitos at WL and I'll want to pack some bug spray.)

Fingers crossed for some Pixie Dust for a great room, though even a view of the Jambo House parking lot will still mean I am looking at the Happiest Parking Lot on Earth!

We just got home last night. I can answer the bug question...we did not notice a bug problem at all. We hung out by the pool several nights and on our balcony others, and I never once got bit. :)
