AKL LITE II - We're #2, but we try harder....

I hope it's just a rumor... Will you let me know how it is during your trip? Lucky you, with only 4 more days to go. I hope AKL is wonderful and that the busses still work well there. Hey -- aren't you staying at Kidani? Then it shouldn't affect you if the busses are too full for Jambo!;)

I'm preparing to be affected: We're at Jambo for the 1st 8 nights; then to Kidani for one night. I plan to pack lots of exploring into that 1-night stay!! :thumbsup2

We're staying Club Level @ Jambo though so if the buses are too full, I'll just mosey back up to the Lounge!! :rotfl:

I will come back with a full report and lots of pictures! (Oh, and a fresh supply of Zebra Domes!! :woohoo:)

:goodvibes

Sounds like you'll get the best of both worlds. We're staying CL in Jambo -- I really like the lounge and the Sunrise Safari too much to try Kidani this trip.;);) Have a fantastic time there, and bring us back lots of photos and zebra domes!:rotfl:

I was finally able to make ressies at AKL for December 5-13th the other night. At first I was totally bummed cuz I called the night before and I was told that the pin code I had found no availability at AKL (only values). But I was DEAD set on AKL, and called the following night and got our ressie.

We are excited to stay there, as we have never stayed there before. I'm anxious to learn as much as I can about the place, but at the same time, I kinda want to be excited! :goodvibes

My ressie is for a standard view....should I be regretting it? We really can't afford the Savannah view right now, and we are not ones to have a room by the pool.

Also, should I be asking for a certain part of the hotel, or a range of room numbers?

Thanks all you AKL know-a-lots!

Awesome! By the way, I will be at AKL/V at the same time as you. I will be over at Kidani from 12/4 until 12/15.

Just got an email from Disney titled "About your Disney Resort arrival!" (I thought it might say something like "it's been raining....................... a lot"!! :rotfl2:)

It's from the Disney Florist - lots of beautiful stuff, but a bit on the pricey side! :rolleyes1 (don't they know we spent all our money paying off the vacation package?!!)

I agree. I have checked out the Disney Florist before and found their prices to be a bit high.

I'm back! I looovvveeddd Kidani:thumbsup2 I didnt want to leave! I've only been home since 11pm last night, I'm trying to do laundry and catch up on sleep...But I just wanted to drop by and say hello:goodvibes Let me know if you've got any questions I can answer! I'll be back!

Welcome back!

I love your signature pic :rotfl:

I just wanted to say how pleasant it is to be apart of this thread. Everyone is so upbeat and nice. Love the zebra dome Friday tradition. :lovestruc I was actually posting on another thread (in the Disney for Families Forum of all places) and boy do they have some rude people over there. Some poor lady asked a question about matching shirts for her family and posters hurling insults came out of the woodwork. Who would have ever thought that people would get pissed off and rude b/c some families choose to have fun in Disney and wear matching t-shirts? Do notice my signature photo below...apparantly families like mine are offensive to some people. :rolleyes1
Anyway, I just wanted to say what a treat is to read positive posts from happy, helpful people! Happy Friday to all. :tink:

floridascgirl ~ I agree about pleasant threads vs. those gone bad ;) I seriously think people who love AKL are all friendly
You tee shirts look so cute, as do yours Donald is #1! I love seeing families at WDW with Disney-themed shirts, shirts announcing reunions and special trips, etc. Have you decided which Trail/area you're going to request for December?

Congratulations on your reservation :woohoo: I think you will LOVE AKL, no matter what your view is... the entire resort is a treasure to be discovered!

Flossbolna ~ Your pics made me smile (and almost cry!) I especially love this one :cloud9:

RachelTori Thanks for letting us know they are sending out those emails to guests before arrival. So - when you made your reservation you had mentioned that you are celebrating a birthday this trip and that is why they sent it? Or do you think they're sending this to everyone? Maybe it serves as a reminder that Disney is not going to be automatically doing anything special for the occasion, so that people don't have any expectations?

Hi Liz! :wave2:

Yes, we are celebrating Tori's Sweet 16 birthday (although it's not until Aug 17th, but she'll be in school that day). We did mention we're celebrating her birthday early, which I'm sure triggered the email. But I have a feeling they will be tailoring emails for all guests! ;)

It was really fun looking for those pictures on photobucket - and even if they are not new pictures, I thought I post a few more, it seems we have seen very few pictures recently, I hope that athenna and Laura will soon improve this state!! :goodvibes

Thanks for the t-shirt compliment, Johnsonet. We had lots of fun wearing them. My DH was skeptical, but actually ended up getting into the spirit. He claims that he was only wearing them b/c I put 80 hours of research/work into them (not really, but close ;)). Secretly, I think he liked it.

As far as the room request goes, as usual I believe that I'm over thinking it. :surfweb: Watch me put 80 hours into this, too! I would love a view like the one Flossbolna posted above. I think I will stick with asking for 4th floor Zebra Trail (I love the big observation windows down the hallway) and maybe give the range of Room #'s in the 2nd section, and maybe the 3rd. I'm not certain, but it seems as if the 1st section could be over a roof???

If we end up over the empty wading pool filled with leaves again, I'll just go down and scoop out the leaves and fill it up with a hose!

Sounds good! If you're not happy with your view, go back to the front desk and ask to please be moved. There are lots of great pool views :thumbsup2

floridascgirl,

This is slightly off-topic, but this thread has been known to do that!! ;)

You're in Charleston? Have you been to the bakery that opened in Nov 2008, called "Baked"? Their original bakery is "Baked NYC" in Brooklyn. The owners are at the Food & Wine Festival at Epcot every year - and I'm counting on seeing them again this Sept/Oct!! DisneyBride'03 and I went to "Sweet Sunday" last year and we're hoping to do it again!! :yay:

:cloud9::cloud9:

Speaking of DisneyBride'03: She and her daughters are at WDW right now!!! :)

Hmmm....never heard of it. I checked the phone book and don't see it listed, either. :confused3 My phone book isn't the newest issue, however. It never got delivered and I'm too lazy to call. There are some other Charleston posters here, so maybe they know of it.

Welcome back! I'm glad you loved Kidani! I hope that the rain didn't bother you too much while you were there -- it sounds torrential! Thanks for offering to answer some questions -- I'll start with some!;)

Did you try Sanaa?

Did you like the pool area? What was it like?

Were the busses more of a hassle because they have 2 stops now?

Does Kidiani "feel" like AKL Jambo? (love the feel of the place).

Was it easy to get from Kidani to Jambo & back? By bus or by walking?

Sorry for the delay, I am still trying to catch up.

Yes, the rain was a nightmare, I was wet every day, pretty much all day...But what can you do besides grin and bear it?:wizard: Well, that and sit at the bar:rotfl:

1) OMG, did we ever tra Sanaa:rotfl: We ate there 4 times...Yes 4 times!!!! On our last day, the manager actually came up to us and hugged us goodbye and said she felt like crying because her first ''regulars'' are leaving:goodvibes...Her name is Sharon and she is lovely.

2) Pool area seems great, I didnt swim....But looks like a great water play area for kids...HOWEVER, I am a big hot tub person...There are 2 of them, one right as you walk into the pool area off to the left, and one much further back by the pool bar....They hardly ever work...They are aware of this and are trying to fix it....The jets seem to work fine, but there is a heating problem they are still trying to get the kinks out of...Usually if 1 isnt working, the other one is...Fri I was soooo annoyed, the one that was working, I didnt feel comfortable using, as there were men (smoking too) working on all the trees surrounding the hot tub, and I wouldnt feel comfortable being there.

3)I thought the bus service was just fine, doesnt take much time to get from one stop to the next, so it doesnt add much travel time.

4) It does have the same type of feel as Jambo, but on a much smaller scale, but it's supposed to be that way...The artwork placed everywhere is like a museum!

5) Me, personally, I love to walk...I walk/jog 5 miles most days so walking between Kidani & Jambo was no prob for me, it's about 10 min....However my 70 year old father was with me, so we'd usually walk there, but bus it back.

Hope that helps!:goodvibes

Athenna, I have the same questions as mmmears.

Did you try Sanaa?

How were the buses?

Some have said the Jambo riders haven't been able to board the 1st early AM bus b/c it was already full from stopping at Kidani. :headache: Did you experience this? I'm hoping it was either a fluke or a bad rumor.

Any feedback on travelling b/w the 2 resorts. Would it be feasible to walk from Jambo to Kidani? Is there a path?

Thanks!

I hope I was able to answer all your questions, too!:goodvibes Let me know if you have more

Thank you for answering my questions, Athenna. Sorry about the foul weather. Great news about Sanaa. I'm really excited about giving it a try. Good to know that the walk b/w the Jambo & Kidani is a possibility. Is it an attractive walk?

flossbolna -- thank you, thank you for all the photos! They just brightened up my morning!:goodvibes

athenna -- sorry about the rain. And thank you for answering all my questions. Hopefully the hot tubs will be working soon. I made lunch ADRs at Sanaa, and now I think we'll just HAVE to make it there somehow. The walk from Jambo to Kidani seems do-able which is great since I don't like taking the busses unless I have to. Glad you had a great time!:)

My sister is in Charleston this weekend and she stopped at the bakery and said it's a cute place. Plus, she bought one of just about everything and is thinking of going back for more pecan bourbon bars!! :cloud9:

athenna,

4 times?!! :cheer2: That's a great testimonial right there!! :thumbsup2 What dishes did you try and what would you recommend? :flower3:

Flossbolna,

Your pictures are just as stunning the 2nd time around! :goodvibes
I want your camera -- that or your picture-taking talent!! ;)

:)

Actually, one of the views is above the wading pool, but you had to look down directly to see it:

DSC02985.jpg

We had requested 4th floor Zebra trail close to elevator, but then they tried to give us the last room out on Giraffe trail 2nd floor! :scared1: I polited asked at check-in wether there wasn't anything on 4th floor, preferrably Zebra trail and she then came up with a room just as we requested, I think we were two doors from the elevators!! :thumbsup2 In my opinion this is the best location for a pool view room: close to the elevators down to the pool and to Mara, still not too far from the lobby and great view! :goodvibes

And thanks to everyone for the nice compliments on my pictures. But I think the person with the most photographic talent here on this thread is Brookelizabeth! The pictures in her trip report are stunning!

Well, for most of the walk, the sports courts then the parking lot is to your right, and the parking garage is to your left....So it's not necessarily a ''pretty'' walk, but hey, it's AKLV, it's good!:goodvibes
