Dinner at Jiko after, but I don't have any pictures of that. :sad1:

It's not cheap, but it sure is a memorable experience! :thumbsup2

...wow, I'm impressed....wish you had those Jiko pix though...:sad1:

I know, but it just didn't seem appropriate. :confused3 It was us 3, a family of 4 (who were really sweet), and a couple at the table and we were pretty much in the middle of a very busy restaurant! The couple had "special dietary needs" and let's just say it detracted from our experience. (and I'm not going to say any more about it!)

Even with the less than wonderful Jiko experience, the Wanyama experience was awesome!! :goodvibes

Oh -- now I'm curious!:rotfl:

Same here! DD and I did the Wanyama in July (RachelTori your pics are SO much better than mine) and we had our dinner alone. The group we did the safari portion with was celebrating a birthday and had a separate dinner later that evening at Jiko. I had done Wanyama once before in 2005 and had a blast with my good friend and one other (male) guest :teeth:
Our dinner was yummy last summer but our sous chef wasn't that into it... Anyway, hope you don't mind that I add my pics. (BTW, we had Rick too! He was a sweetie :) He and Leisl were our guides)

RachelTori & Johnsonet,

Thanks for posting the Safari & Dinner photos! We're doing the am safari instead, but it's great to see what we're missing!:)

mmmears, the first time we stayed at AKL we did the Sunrise Safari (just as you are doing...) It wasn't until several trips later that I did CL again and Wanyama. If you love AKL CL as much as I think you will, then you will be back and you can look forward to trying Wanyama then :thumbsup2

Are you getting excited?? :dance3:

Really excited, but getting stressed today about DD's homework and projects, etc. (Middle School is tough) that have to get completed before we leave. Seems I have to push her sometimes to get things done.:headache:

But I can't wait for our trip! The Sunrise Safari sounded like fun for us, and the WS seemed somewhat pricey. Plus, we want to see the lions!:)

We're planning to spend an afternoon & evening just hanging around AKL and soaking in the atmosphere (& maybe dinner at Jiko). I didn't want to over-schedule our time there, since we wont be there for very long.:)

Hi right back at 'ya, johnsonet.:goodvibes

Thanks for the pictures to you and RachelTori....both of you have pictures that put ours to shame.:surfweb: Well, at least the ones on my camers...haven't seen the ones on DS1's camera.

Little side note but our Wanyama vehicle did not have the cover on it. I wonder if they use that more in hot weather or if rain threatens?

I'm sorry you're getting stressed right before your trip. I know everything will work out. Good luck  You were smart not to overschedule this time :thumbsup2 You're going to have a great time. AKL is fabulous :cloud9: (On Sunrise you will see SO many animals - including cheetahs, elephants and rhinos!! :yay: too)

Ooooh - I'll bet that's exactly it! The first time I did Wanyama we were not in an open-air vehicle. It was basically a hard-top jeep with a big sun-roof :teeth:

I hope the stress goes away soon....trust me, I can relate.:rotfl:

Your plans sound perfect.:goodvibes

How do you compare the vehicle from your first trip to the flat bed truck. We had eleven adults on our Wanyama and I felt it was too cramped for ideal viewing...we spent most of our time seated facing each other.:rotfl:

It is not the best arrangement, is it?
I stood up in the back most of the time so that I could see. Here's a pic from the vehicle

I am hoping to find at least one pic from my 2005 Sunset safari. It may be that I only have the pic our guide took of us with the giraffe behind us (they don't seem to do this anymore...)
It was smaller though. Plus,. there were only THREE of us! I feel as though I remember sticking my head out of a sun roof:confused:

Hey guys, I'm sorry to write this here because I've posted this question in a variety of places, and everybody is SO helpful, but people don't seem to know the answer to this question!!

What drinks are available for the refillable mug at the Mara AKL??? I really don't need the pop (I'm Canadian, LOL)/soda - I'm more wondering about the juice/lemonade/ice tea....anybody know?? pics??

Thanks!!

Thanks for the Wanyama photos, you guys!! :goodvibes

Ice tea for sure.

My husband and older son stood up in the back too!

The picture with the giraffe sounds so cool. We got a picture of some Tommies I think. It was pretty but obviously not as special. We received one for our party of 5 which we gave to our son and his wife. Each of the other couples received one each. I think we should have received two and a half, don't you?:rotfl: For $800, you'd think they could afford 2 pictures for 5 adults.:confused3

Ice tea for sure.

Ohhh my husband (from New Jersey) always laughs that I call it pop!! I had no idea that pop was anything but Canadian!!

Thanks eh! :rotfl2: I couldn't resist...but I really don't say eh!!

Rumor is that the boards are going down for maintenance at 10:00.
