I know they don't serve food 24 hours or anything, but if we wanted to go sit and read a book or watch TV really early or late at night, would we be able to?

Also, would we have access to basic beverages 24 hours (cokes, water, juice, etc.) or only at certain times? I thought I read that those were kept in a cooler and you could grab them any time.

The sitting area is open but the food and beverages are taken in at 11pm. You would have to pay for them from a vending machine after that.

They dim the lights in that area when it's closed. Although it's not completely dark because it is open to the lobby and the chandeliers are there, it is still dim.

We typically will grab a few juices or sodas to leave in our room refrigerator for late night snacks. You can bring these back down to the lounge after hours.

What my family & I like to in the Atrium Club at the Contemporary is to grab some extra drinks when we are back in room, because at 10:00 PM everything is taken away. It's great if we were ever hungry & wanted something at the Food & Fun Center, because this way we have something to drink. I do realize we can use our mugs but if I was in the mood for Ginger Aile, I would not need my mug then because it's not offered in the Food & Fun Center, but they give it to you in cans on the Atrium Club.

Thanks. That's all good to know. Mostly, I was just hoping that my night owl husband would have somewhere to sit and read (or maybe watch TV, if that's possible) last at night after the rest of us area asleep in the room.

I don't know what they do with the TV's in the lounge in the AKL Concierge floor since I never stayed there, but on the Atrium Club I think they put the remote controls away for the evening, but can't remember 100% if they did. Anyway just a heads up if they do put the remotes away for the night.

Everything is definately closed for the night, TV off, lights dimmed etc... it is obvious no one should really be there.

Not a big deal. He always has two or three books going that he can read.

The lobby of the hotel is pretty quiet at night, and there are lots of places to sit.

I know the BC, YC, WL and BWI all have doors that are closed at night for the lounge, but the others are open. At the GF, we've never been asked to leave the lounge after 10pm and I enjoy sitting out there reading my book either late at night or very early in the morning also.

Gem, go ahead and ask the staff at the AKL. I can't imagine it would be a problem, but maybe they handle this differently there.

Yeah at BC they close between services, it's kind of a pain and they actually ask you to get out lol

when we stayed at the AK Concierge last Dec, my 3rd shift DH asked Don this very question. Don told him, that at 11 p.m., they turn down the lights, (but don't turn them off) He said we were welcome to sit in the concierge lounge if we wanted, but if we needed more light, we could go sit in the lobby, because its pretty quiet down there at that hour.
DH learned on that trip, that the tv in the lounge is turned off around 10 p.m. (it showed the same cartoons during our 5 day visit (L-L-L-L-L-Lambert, the sheepish Lion sticks out in my mind!)
and that they actually turn off the music in the main lobby between 3 and 5 am while they do the vacuuming!
We love the AKL concierge!

Oh, I love that cartoon, we saw it all the time in the AKL lounge, we still laugh about it now. Also the one with the seal/sea lion? that follows mickey home from the zoo and lives in his shower lol

NO, its about the lion that is raised by a sheep and is very scared unntil the wolf is about to eat his adopted mom and then he goes "Lion" on the wolf!!

Yes, I know... and also they play the seal/sea lion one - they must be on the same tape.

I love the lion/sheep one too. The stork drops the baby lion by mistake :)

i think most of the food area close at 10 or 11
we were 24 hrs about the WL in august and by 945 everynight they were closing it all down removing all teh food and sodas
i think they need to come up with a better plan at night
if the parks are open til 1am and you come back wanting a drink and the lounge is closed and so is roaing fork you shouldnt have to go to a vending machine
the CL staff was nice enough to put some sodas and juice boxes in our room before we arrived

Doesn't the lounge look lovely with the lights so dim. Kind of continues the theme of being in Africa with the safari camp lights low at night. Very romantic.

I do think it would be good if they could get more cartoons or put the TV on the Disney cartoon channel. I can hear Lambert playing in my head right now and we were only there three nights. It must drive the CMs there batty!

Kelly, you could always put a couple of cans in your fridge before you leave for the evening. I haven't stayed at any hotels where the lounge serves all night. In fact, the WDW hotels offer desserts and beverages later than most in our experience.

This has never happened to us at the AKL lounge. They just work around anyone in the lounge between services (literally since some people help themselves as soon as the tray hits the table).
