Hi,
We just booked our flights for Dec and now are deciding on hotels. Do you think the construction will be bad at that time? We are taking our little guy :wizard: (18 mos) on his first trip and would love to stay at AKL, but aren't sure we want to worry about construction....any thoughts? Our other choices are PO-Riverside or Caribbean.

Thanks in advance!

popcorn:: Also interested on any speculation. I have a 1 bedroom booked for December 6 to 16th.

The construction is the new Kidani building scheduled to open in 2009. Most of the major outside construction, involving cranes and lots of outside noise, is likely to be done by December. In any event, it is a possible noise issue only for the side of AKL that faces sunset savanna and even then the construction is off in the distance somewhat. To avoid any issues, you may want to request either Arusha savanna view (the one in the center of the AKL resort) or Uzima savanna view (the one on the side of the building where the pool also is), from either of which there will be no issue of construction noise.

Construction on the current building is already complete, so no worries there.

Construction on the new building is relatively removed from the main hotel building, so I wouldn't worry TOO much there, either. Especially considering how fast contruction is proceeding, and the "wing" of the new building closest to the existing lodge is FLYING up...the exterior concrete and steel will likely be complete by December, IMHO.

If you're REALLY worried about the effect the construction of the new building will have on you (and your wee one's naps), just request the following:

A room on Zebra trail, facing the arusha savannah, near the elevators down to the pool.

That should make sure that, even if there IS any effects of construction to be felt, you'll be far enough away that YOU won't feel them.

We recently stayed at AKL for a week and did not notice any noise or other constructions issues at all. We would stay there again in a heartbeat!

Just got back from a nine-day stay yesterday and will echo that sentiment at least as far as the construction is concerned.

If your wee one has no problems sleeping anywhere, AKL is great. It is a good bus ride but they are fairly quick.

I just changed our reservation to AKL and our trip advisor said she had worked with several famalies that went to the AKL in the last little while and nobody had a single complaint. She also said she was speaking with a reservationist that said they had closed rooms that would have been most affected by noise. Which rooms those were I don't know.
But overall she was very positive about it (and I didn't even know there was any construction and I was looking at a bunch of deluxes so I really don't think she was trying to swing me any direction:) )
