I booked a pool view for my son's honeymoon. While he is there do you think it would be possible for him to ask to upgrade to a Savanna View for the last 2-3 nights? I've never heard anyone switching rooms after they check in, would he go to the desk to ask on the morning he would like to switch and go on with his daily plans? I'm not sure how the whole luggage switching would work either.

Anyone know?
Thanks........Lynn

FWIW, my fiance and i booked a standard room at AKL and were upgraded to savanna view without asking - but, we went in september, so not nearly as busy as it is there now. we were perfectly ok with what we had booked, there are lots of areas off of the lobby and the hallways that are available to view the savanna. we probably spent as much time on those as we did on our own balcony, so we could see more of the resort.

your son can always ask to upgrade - but he will likely be told what the full rack rate for the savanna view room is (if any are available), and will have to pay the difference. i believe if he decides to do that and switch rooms, he can call bell services to work out the luggage bit - not 100% certain how that works though.

Congratulations to your family!

As the pp said, your son can certainly ask for a savannah view, but the CM will most likely give him a cost of what it would be to upgrade. If they do change rooms, bell services will keep their luggage should the new room not be available right away; otherwise, if it is ready, they could check out of the one and into the other and take their luggage straight to the new room. Just thought I would mention that we've stayed in both a savannah view and pool view and while the savannah views are very nice, I thought the pool view was just as nice. I loved our pool view room.......our view was great and the room was very convenient to the lobby, gift shop, and elevator to go down to the pool and Mara. But whatever they decide, I hope they have a magical trip and enjoy the AKL as it is a beautiful resort. Congratulations to your son :).

Thanks for the Congratulations, we are so happy for them! I have only met her 3 times (my son was overseas and now lives in California) but each time we fall more in love with her!!

Oh, yes I expected to pay for the upgrade that is why it's going to be only the last 2 or 3 days if my son thinks it's necessary. She really loves the animals.
Hopefully they will have a last minute room available.
Do you think this an unusual request or do many people want to switch?

it's probably not an unusual request, but depending on how close they are to the lobby, or a viewing area, they may not think it's necessary. We spent a lot of time on the balcony, compared to our balcony at the Poly, but it was mostly while i was waiting for him to get ready, or he was waiting for me. In the afternoon it was a little too hot to sit out on ours since the sun was beating on it. Our room was along the same side of the resort as the pool, we passed the pool on our walk down to our room every day.

if you take a look at this map, you'll see the pool view rooms are on the zebra trail: http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/akl.jpg

There are viewing areas along the hallways, outside of the lobby, around the pool, etc. the way our room was positioned, we had a nice view of a specific area of the savanna. It was beautiful, but we also saw the same animals every day. when we were ready to look at something different, we either went to the viewing spot near our room, or to the lobby. at night, there are CMs near the pool and outside of the lobby with night vision goggles that you can use. From your room, you really can't see anything, since the savannas aren't lit all around so that the animals can sleep.

Not an unusual request, but depending on the time of year they are going may not be possible. Even when we were there in September, it was booked the weekend we were there for a marathon so it just depends. He can always ask. We found that pool view is very nice and relaxing. The pool is never loud for us. We love the viewing areas around the hotel and find that there are so many places to see the animals even without a savanna view.

I honestly wouldn't worry about it - the savanna rooms are lovely, but there are SO many locations in the hotel to see the animals. It might be more hassle than it's worth to change rooms within the same hotel. But if it's something that interests them, they should definitely ask - never hurts.
