We will leave for AKL in 9 days. This will be our first visit to AKL and would like to request a room that is not overlooking the parking lot, but do not have a clue which floor to request or which area. I have read that we should request by fax or phone, but when should we do this? Could someone give us room numbers to request or floor and area to request. We are taking our grand son and would love for him to be able to see animals from our room if this is possible with a standard room.

Any help will be greatly appreciated. I hate not to reqest and then be dissapointed in our room location if there is a possibility we could get a better room. :confused:AKL HELP NEEDED

disneypop, This is from the passporter. Sorry I can not give you more informaiton then this.

The horseshoe-shaped resort, inspired by an African
Kraal (corral)village, gives all but 100 of the 1293
rooms a view of the Lodge ’s private wildlife reserve.
The rooms are vibrant with rich tapestries,hand-
carved furniture, gauze hangings at the head of the
beds,and Kente-inspired fabrics.Standard rooms
(344 sq.ft)have two queen-size beds,one king-size
bed and a day bed,or one queen-size bed and bunk
beds.Deluxe rooms (381 sq.ft.)add more amenities
like a make-up mirror and a second phone.All rooms
have a balcony,ceiling fan,table and two chairs,
armoire with a 27"TV and drawers,double sinks,
in-room safe,hair dryer,iron and ironing board,

Have a great trip.

It's not possible to see animals from a standard room BUT many people have reported getting free upgrades to savannah view room. I think your best bet is to send a fax request or even call down and tell them about how special the upcoming trip is and how you'd love there help in selecting a great room for you. Go expecting a standard room and then see if they send some magic your way!!

There are several public areas where you can observe animals, windows along the halls as well as the Arushka Rock out the back side of the lobby.
The standard view rooms are the least expensive because of the lack of animals. When you get there, ask if there are any Savannah view rooms available, they might offer one for a few dollars more. I have had several different Savannah views, all are great. The animals come & go, so there really isn't one view that's guaranteed to be the best. Very early in the morning, just as the sun is rising is a great time to see activity.
The staff there at the AKL is fantastic, they are all so into their work. If you have time, take the free resort tour. It's so educational & fascinating.
The last time we stayed there, we were disappointed with our Savannah view at first. Not a single animal from the time we checked in till the next morning. I woke up early to peek outside & check the weather and scared everyone half to death by screaming GIRAFFES!!!!! There were 4 drinking from a pond right outside our window, 2 Thompson's gazelles, tons of birds & some Bongos. It's a magnificent place. Be sure to eat at the AKL, your grandson will really love BOMA, so will you. Jico is great, but a little adult.
Notice the smell of the lobby, woodsy, spicy & exotic.
Enjoy! ;)

You will not see animals form a standard room. They are not on the savannahs. I would suggest requesting a room on the Ostrich Trail, 4th or 5th floor...that way you won't be near the bus stop.

When you arrive you can request a complimentary upgarde, but keep in mind that if you get it you still wont see animals from your room, it will be pool view.

There are plenty of public viewing areas to see the animals from though. This is a great resort, enjoy!

You will love AKL :D We want to go back! I would reccommend springing for the savannah view. It is so worth it...and Iwas too chicken to count on a comp upgrade. We called back after we made our original ressies and asked to upgrade. Then... I faxed the following 4 days before we arrived:
Hello from Huntsville, Alabama!

We are looking forward to our upcoming trip to Walt Disney World!
We will be staying with you at the Animal Kingdom Lodge from December 8th through December 14th and I wanted to see if you could possibly accommodate our room requests for this trip. We have a savannah view, need a nonsmoking room, would love to secure a room overlooking Arusha Rock, preferably on the Zebra Trail with an unobstructed view. We are traveling with our two mouskateers (ages 6 & 8) and they would enjoy bunk beds although we would also be perfectly comfortable with two queen-sized beds. Thank you in advance for any help you can give us in making our visit perfect!

Sincerely,

We ended up in room 3411...and it was great location. Right off the lobby and above Boma/Jiko and great view of the savannah.

Good luck with your plans
:D :D :D

We got room 4513 (or was it 4517?) when we were there in November 2001. It was a GREAT room.

If you reserved a Savanna view, I'd request the Arusha Savannah, 3rd or 4th floor.

Our room was about 1/3rd of the way out from the lobby and we had excellent views of giraffe, ankole cattle, zebras, and eland.

I forget the room request list we gave, but it was really long. I think we got most of what we asked for. :)
