Just wondering if anyone has been disappointed...If so, what view did you have and what floor?

A friend of mine stayed there and she wan't disappointed in view BUT she said it was a trek to her room. She was on the very end of the trail. All the way down the hall. Said she didn't care to carry her kids to the room at the end of the day that far. So you might want to consider that if you have children, or elderly parent family members.

We got one that we weren't thrilled with. We called down to the front desk right away and offered us a couple of other choices, which we were able to see before we decided. We ended up ALL the way at the end of Zebra trail. It was nice because you couldn't see any other rooms and there was a feeding station right below us.

This was in 2002 when Arusha savannah was closed.

We have stayed in a savanna view room at the AKL twcie and had great views both times. I would suggest that you request a view of the Arusha savanna.

Is the Arusha Savannah where the Zebras are? With the Zebra trail? I'm also confused as to what floor-If I ask for 3rd floor, which is the lobby, should I actually ask for ground floor?

should I actually ask for ground floor?

from what I have read the ground floor rooms have a worse view than any other because they are so low plus I don't think they have a balcony you can sit on so you miss out on being able to stand on the patio and look out. The best rooms are reportedly on the 3'ed and 4'th floor, the 1-2'nd floor are too low to get a good view and the 5'th is too high.

We stayed at AKL for a couple days after our BCV stay and got a bad savannah view. We were in a deluxe savannah with bunk beds and got the people pen view on the 5th floor. When we got back, I was told that the bunk bed rooms all had this view? Our previous regular savannah view room was great though!

We had adjoining rooms (one with bunks) a couple of years ago and we had a roof as our view. You could see the savannah if we stood on chairs on the balcony (and I'm 5'9"). I dont remember the room number but I think we were on 4th floor. The view from the room with bunks was not as bad as the one without.

As you stand in the lobby and look out at the Arusha savannah, the Zebra Trail (and access to the pool) is on the right and the Kudu Trail is on the left. The two Trails form a big, long "U" shape that is stretched out. We saw zebras, cattle, giraffes, and other animals.

As you walk down the hallway of the Zebra Trail, the rooms on the left have a vew of the Arusha savannah and the rooms on the right have a view of the pool. The pool and all the restaurants are on first floor.

As you walk down the hallway of the Kudu Trail, the rooms on the right have a view of the Arusha savannah and the rooms on the left have a view of another savannah -- and I just can't remember the name. It's the one with the 'people pens' where people would go if they needed to evacuate the building. There seemed to be a lot of birds on that savannah, plus other animals.

Our room was almost at the end of the Kudu trail, looking at the Arusha savannah. This was a bit of a walk to the pool or Mara, but it was very quiet and we were very, very happy with our view. Normally, we want higher rooms, but we requested 2nd floor (not even sure there is a 1st floor -- the lobby is on 3rd floor) and were at eye level with the giraffes and had a close-up view of the animals. The uper floors would have a broader view of the entire Arusha savannah.

we were on the 2nd floor - I am pretty sure there are no rooms on the first floor, as there are no windows that low when you look out over the savannah.

Our room was quite a trek, but it overlooked a smaller side savannah and the view was great - we saw plenty of giraffe, but no zebra

take a look at this:
AKL Resort Map

the only "ground floor" (floor 1) rooms, are around the pool. savannah views start on the 2nd floor...the lobby and such are on the 3rd floor.

we LOVED the arusha savannah...we've stayed twice on the 4th floor (concierge). I didn't find there to be much obstruction being up so high...I loved having such a great view of the entire savannah. we stayed once on the zebra trail, the other on the kudu trail.

yes - it is possible to be quite a HIKE away from the lobby/elevators...you can always request a closer room.

enjoy! we love this place! can't wait until december to go back!

I got a "people pen" view once and went right back to the front desk! I then got a much better view.

I have been to AKL twice, and received people pen views both times. The second time I went I specifically asked for no people pen view, and the check in cm acted like she didn't know what I was talking about. She said she could not accomodate our Arusha Savannah request, but we were upgraded to a deluxe room. I can't for the life of me figure out what is different in the deluxe from the regular room we had the time before. We requested another room after we saw the view, and they said none was available until the next day. We just decided to stay instead of hassling with moving. Really if you don't look directly down, the people pen is not much of a problem, just ugly. I would not, however, want to stay on the fifth floor again... it was really hot and stuffy no matter how we turned the thermostat. The only other problem we had was with the wild **** sapiens that came back from the bars late one night and proceeded to party in their room until we called management.

We had a room on the second floor, Kudu trail, that was right over the people pen. The animals were quite a distance from us. We didn't ask to be moved as we weren't going to be in the room much, and we had gotten such a fantastic deal. Next time we stay there I'll guarantee a better view.

This subject has been listed on several threads

Here is my view simply put as someone that loves the AKL and has stayed their numerous times.

The Sav view is often a hit or miss thing. On a good stay you can sit outside your room drinking your favorite beverage and be amazed at the wonderful animals you see. However, you also may see very view or no animals at another time. It is a hit and miss thing. We no longer get a Sav room but are satisfied with the basic room. But everyone is different. If you have never stayed there I would recommend at least trying a Sav room with the understanding that you may or may not see animals right outside your room.

LOL - I just had to add that we had a Savannah view in an VERY nice room a couple of years back? And while there were indeed times when the animals were there? (mostly during feeding hours) Most of the time when were in the room? There were just a bunch of vultures out there hangin' around - LOL - we starting calling it "vulture vision"....."all vultures, all the time" LOL

I think my "people pen" problem was that it was only a second floor room so ALL I could see was the "people pen" I have stayed there several times and know the animals are hit or miss. I acutally perfer the higher view so you can see more of the Savannah and have a better shot of seeing the animals you like.

While I normally don't complain, if AKL is going to charge and I am going to pay for a view, a People Pen on the second floor is not going to get it. (If it had been an upper floor it might have been OK since you can see farther!)

I also made a point of getting up EARLy every day and watching feeding!

I think we are going to change our reservations to AKL...however, what are PEOPLE PENS? And what would be your suggestion on how to not get these rooms with that view?

Thanks!

Yesterday I made a reservation for Thanksgiving week '05, deluxe savanah view. We are a family of 5, so that's really our only option if we want to be at AKL (although the CM first told me we'd have to get 2 rooms if there were 5 of us. Thank goodness for the DISboards...I had more knowledge than she did!)
