AKL - for 5 is this possible???

We are staying at AKL in Aug and our friends would like to go as well. The problem is that we have 4 in our party and they have 5. Is there a way that they could stay at AKL too, but not spend a fortune. I think it stinks that choices for families with 3 children are limited to the values, POR or major deluxes. Is AKL for 5 still possible???

In a standard room, no.

I believe there are some deluxe rooms at AKL, or the villas there, too, which fit 5.

I understand your pain because we dumped the WL (for the Poly--so it was a good trade in the end!) when our youngest graduated from the crib.

All the deluxe rooms at AKL were converted to DVC villas. Your friends would either have to get an AKV one bedroom (not value, they only sleep four) or the AKL suite. The AKV one bedroom (not value) has one king bed, one queen sleeper sofa and one single sleeper chair.

The Contemporary has nice rooms that sleep five that are not quite as expensive as the Polynesian or Grand Floridian. And you can walk to the MK from the CR.

If AKL doesn't work out, they may want to consider Ft Wilderness cabin. That might work without breaking the bank.

I think they only can if one of the kids is still in a crib.

I understand there pain. The choices in Disney are way too limited for large families, which is why we´ve never stayed on-site before (although we will with 2 rooms at a value this year).

One of the things we like most about travelling in the US is that it is usually very accomodating towards large families. Lots of mini-vans, vans, etc. at all car rentals, accomodation for larger families can usually be easily found (large hotel rooms, hotel suites, self catering apartments, etc), often good discounts or kids prices at restaurants, etc. However, as strange as it may seem, Disney doesn´t quite seem to keep up with this trend.

It's a shame Disney converted the 5-people deluxe rooms at AKL to DVC. That was a nice option we used more than once when we had 5. But, you can't stop Disney from using space in the most profitable way possible, and apparently DVC is much, much more profitable for Disney than renting out hotel rooms.
