Just returned from AKL and want to post my thoughts on the fitness center.
Like other dis board members who have posted here, I was a bit put off knowing that I had to pay extra to use the fitness facilities - particularly given the rates at AKL. I want to go on record that it was absolutely worth the fee (my DH and I paid $45 for family length of stay).
I travel A LOT for business and utilize the fitness facilities at many hotels. This is the first experience I have had with one that did not leave something to be desired!
First off - the center was CLEAN! The machines were first-rate and the employees (not Disney) were all friendly and knowlegeable. The locker rooms with saunas were also very nice. There are always plenty of fresh towels and they will supply you with earphones for the 4 television screens. There is also a cold water fountain in the middle of the gym.
They had Life Fitness cardio equipment (2 elliptical crosstrainers, 3 treadmills, 2 or 3 stairmasters and 4 or 5 bikes) and Cybex weight machines, as well as a free-weight area and a few other pieces of equipment. It is packed in a little tight, but that really didn't bother me.
While we were there, they were open from 6am until 9pm. Unfortunately, we didn't have time to take advantage of the massages offered, but other guests were commenting on how good they were.
