We have AKL standard room booked using the Visa discount code for the first portion of our stay Dec 1-5. And that is because there were no other views available at that time using the discount. Now we found out that savanna bunk bed room is available using the discount. Is it worth paying the $627.52 more to take it? Or should we just stick with standard in hopes that we will be upgraded at check in.

Does the additional $627.52 fit within your vacation budget? If it does then go for it. We love the savanna view rooms at the AKL and would really be pressed to have to book a standard view.

On the other hand if the additional expense is going to cause you to have to try and justify the additional expense please do not spend the additional funds and go with the standard and enjoy what you have. Do not expect an upgrade and go being prepared to look at the parking lot. If you get upgraded great if not have a great stay anyway.

If you think that looking at the parking lot is going to be a downer to your trip then don't book it and maybe look at the moderates.

I just booked AKL standard room for my Nov visit. This was with an AP discount. The person making my reservation asked me if I was aware of the noise and that the animals wouldn't always be out. We have stayed here before in a savanna room which was very nice but there are many places around the hotel to see the animals. I didn't want to pay all the extra money for a savanna room and then there only be a few animals around. We are only staying 2 nights.

I have been back and forth. I originally booked a standard savannah view at reg. prices. When the code came out, they had standard view and savannah bunk rooms. The difference was $320. At first I booked standard, and then called back and changed. We are going to be there 3 nights, plus are trying to do all the parks (1/2 days mostly) and morning and night is probably going to be the main time we are in our room. I love the thought of sitting on a balcony with a cup of coffee in the morning and wine in the evening looking at the animals. That is the whole reason we are going to AKL. This is our last trip for a long time, and our family christmas gift, so I decided to splurge. The way I see it, we are still about $80 less than our original reservation and we were upgraded to a bunk room. I'm just happy we are going. I hope we see lots of animals!

I Just returned from AKL, and I will be writing more about my stay soon.

Only my opinion, but I would not pay for $627 for the savannah view for 4-5 days. I stayed standard myself, and the stay was absolutely wonderful!!!

I would go out and look at the animals in the overlooks and outside the lobby and everything. It was great fun. You don't really need the animals outside your window, and I rarely saw anyone even looking at the animals from the balconies, I think people are too busy and is the few minutes at day glance from your room worth it? Not to me unless you get a very special deal, or the money isn't an issue at all.

The hotel grounds are just so nice and even the rooms that you'll have a great time. Furthermore, I loved my standard view. I got to see the thatch roof entry, people arriving, nice landscaping, etc.

Plus a shorter walk to leave the hotel, go get food, etc.
