AKL Construction Concerns Post-Sept 1

I have met every dead end you could think of. My DH are staying at AKL 9/14-23. However, now that I know that they are actually outsourcing guests with check-in dates until Sept 1, I am really worried about the level of construction there! My DH suffers from allergies and migraines and I am concerned this will be aggravated there. So I tried calling Guest Services and the gentleman I talked to was very rude and said we absolutely could not be moved and keep our Free Dining. In fact, he said even if we were asked to move, we would have to pay the upcharge in price! I told him he was incorrect, and he admitted he was not part of the special team that's dealing with the AKL issue. So when I asked to speak with said special team, he refused!!! Again, there was nothing he or anyone could do, as they are not moving anyone staying after 9/1.

So I am stuck because we can't afford to pay the extra $$$$ to stay at another resort. The cheapest was WL, and that was $400 more. And we can't afford to lose our Free Dining (I did not spend 2 hours of my life on hold to get Free Dining for nothing!). I don't know what else to do except vent here.

We were SO looking forward to staying at the AKL but with the dust and drilling, we are hoping we're not extremely disappointed in Disney's decision of handling this matter.

POOP!!!!

could you try calling AKL directly and speak to a manager? They maybe able to help you out more. If they can't move you, ask if they can put you in a room farthest away from the major part of construction.

I agree, call the AKL directly, or call guest services again and speak to someone else. Often times you'll get someone the second time around who will be more helpful. I would imagine that if they forsee the construction to be a continued problem past 9/1 and into your trip dates you'll be getting a call from them yourself. I hope it works out and you'll have no problems!

I would definately speak to someone at the resort if possible. I would also update my reservation with a note that for medical reasons, you need to be located as far away from the construction as possible...

I am staying at AKL 9/16-9/22. I have been keeping up with the construction/moving of people. From what I understand they have not been moving people with a checkin date after 9/1.

Now this is my first trip to WDW and first for my two daughters 2 & 6. I too like everyone is putting up a lot of hard earned money for this trip. Am I worried about the construction? Yes.

I do believe they will have everything straightened out by the time we get there. I think there is the possibility of a silver lining in all of this. Since there will be DVC rooms completed by 9/1 it may be possible that some people will get upgraded to one of those rooms. They can't be using all of the completed rooms right away can they?

Just my two cents.

Be aware also that sometimes they are still moving people on the day of C/I. If you arrive you might want to mention to the CM checking you in that you would be willing to move to another resort if they need to move people. In a case like yours they most likely wouldn't charge you for an upgrade or for the dinning plan. Also be aware though that when places often go to move guests, they usually move guests staying shorter stays (bc of resort availability and bc its easier to move one or two nighters then it is to move a week stay)
