AKL Concierge - What type of room do you get thru DVC?

My in-laws waited until 18 days before our trip to back out, so my family of 4 no longer needs the 2-bdrm unit we had booked. I had to use the points anyway (they'll expire before we'd have a chance to go again), so I switched to 2 nights in AKL concierge, followed by 5 days in an OKW 1-bdrm.

Has anyone stayed AKL concierge thru DVC? Do I still need to make a view-request to hope to get a savannah view? Is the room a studio or suite? I am having trouble finding much information on what it means to stay on concierge level other than that it costs a lot of points and it is hard to spell!

You'll recieve a regular hotel room at the AKL. Most of the AKL concierge rooms are savannah view, but all of the smoking-optional rooms are pool view. If you request your room to be on the 5th floor, you'll guarantee yourself a savannah view concierge room. At AKL concierge, you gain access to the lounge on the 6th floor. They serve a contiental breakfast in the mornings, have snacks out during the day, serve tea around 3:30pm, place appetizers out at 5:00pm, and deserts and cordials at 8:00pm. It really is a nice experience and you should enjoy it!!

Its actually the 'deluxe' sized room. All AKL concierge rooms are either deluxe size or larger suites.

We falt that we had the best possible location. We were about 3/4 of the way down the balcony that overlooks the lobby. It was a short walk to the elevator/lounge area. The savannah view was great with animals under our balcony all the time. Everything about it was great..except the points cost.

We stayed in the Poly concierge less than two months later. We felt the AKL was better, when we do concierge again, it will be AKL.

If you stay concierge and won't you automatically be on 5th or 6th floor?

Non-smoking would be on 5th floor, smoking would be on 6th.

If you book concierge you don't have to request a savannah view because you will automatically get one if you request non-smoking. You will "most likely" get a pool view if you request smoking.

I just don't want you to have to make requests that will already be in place and may ruin your chances of getting what you really want if they are the first requests on your list.

You will get access to the wonderful lounge, turndown service, help with PS's, etc.

One of the big plusses of AKL Concierge is the Sunrise Safari. Currently, it is offered on Tuesday and Saturday mornings. It is a backstage tour of the Animal Kingdom Park (There is a fee for the tour). This is very popular and gets very good reviews. Another popular event is Cinderella's Royal Table breakfast in the castle.

The AKL Itinerary Planning Office should call you at 90, 60, and 30 days before your arrival to assist you with planning your vacation.

Unfortunately I haven't given them that much notice to work with (since my in-laws didn't give me that much notice). Is there any chance of booking the Sunrise Safari 2 days in advance when we arrive?

This books up fast, it will not be easy if at all. You should call as soon as you have a reservation at AKL concierge.

It was well worth it. The breakfast afterwards was great, AK was empty, the safari was real good, it was a great experience.

I just got off the phone with AKL concierge. I had no idea what this concierge experience entails. The lovely CM, Juanita, had me on the phone for 45 minutes (she couldn't find my reservation at first so she called me back -- so the long distance bill was on Disney for a change). She asked so many questions, arrival time, arrival airline and flight number, special celebrations (ie. birthdays or anniversaries), and activities or meals we were interested in. Wow, this would have saved me quite a few PS phone calls had I done this earlier.

We had no trouble booking the Sunrise Safari. It sounds fabulous. She made PS for DH and I at Jiko and childcare reservations for the kids that night. She even got me on a waiting list for the Pirate Cruise out of the Grand Floridian that I was unable to book myself. I had no idea there was such a thing as a waiting list! She took all the confirmation numbers for the PS's that I had already booked and will compile a complete itinerary for our stay. I feel so pampered! Remind me to thank the in-laws for cancelling at the last minute!
