While the service was great and the food offerings good what amazed me the most was the behavior of some families. I was absolutely surprised to find that some would send their 5 year olds to the lounge by themselves. They would allow them to venture out into the hotel by themselves to take the elevator up to the 6th floor from the 5th floor. Once there they would touch several pastries and plates, etc. before deciding on what they wanted. I offered to help once and the little girl was "snotty".... the staff noticed and told them they needed to have a parent with them in the lounge. I am always concerned about the whereabouts of my son and consider Disney a "prime target" for those wanting to "walk away with a kid." After all, how many times do you see a parent dragging a kid screaming, kicking and crying in the park. It scares me to think of the possibility.
Also, I was surprised at how parents allow kids to behave. Some were standing on the "coffee tables" ... walking on the couches and chairs ... throwing food ... yelling and screaming. We noticed a marked change in the guests during the weekends. It seemed there were many more families with children who had left their manners at home.
The other thing I was surprised about was seeing people take 6 or 7 cans of pop back to their room with them. Some even went to Mara's and got a couple trays that they loaded with food and drink. I assume they were taking it back to the room but, they must have had a huge family. The concierge staff was always very gracious but I was simply amazed.
Kudos to those serving in the concierge at the AKL as they handled several uncomfortable situations with tack and diplomacy. I would have probably not handled it so well.
