Just got off the phone w/the IPO regarding our upcoming stay and had asked if the Presidential suite was available while we were there. She (sorry, can't remember her name but not don or sue) said that as of yesterday, the temporary concierge lounge was moved to the Royal Assante Suite. Not too happy since we are taking our extended family after our vow renewal and are trying to wow them. Most have never been to Disney and this will be at the end of our stay after Poly GVC, GF RPC, BWI garden suites. Can't change now b/c it is booked thru Disney Fairy Tale Weddings Room block. I'm really hoping not to end the trip on a sour note with construction and a subpar lounge. Anyway, just wanted those of you with an upcoming trip to know. Oh, she said they should be moving the lounge back to it's original location in Dec.

Why will this move be subpar? We're staying Concierge in mid-August. When I spoke with a planner, he said he wan't sure if the lounge would be moving for our stay. I've never been to AKL so I don't know the original lounge.

Where is this in relation to the rooms?

Having only seen that suite on TV (Great Hotels) it's a beautiful and large suite. I can't imagine it's worse than the original lounge area, plus it has the HUGE benefit of being able to see the animals, which if I remember correctly, the lounge did not have.

I wouldn't even give it a second thought. I think you'll still really enjoy it.

First off, your news shows me that you can never believe a word you hear re. construction b/c when i was there mid-may I was specifically told by a CM there in the Kilimanjaro Club told that the lounge would NEVER move from its location:rolleyes: Or maybe things just changed out of unexpected necessity. Who knows?

The Royal Asante Suite is on the 5th floor and not sure whether it is the one on Kudu Trail or Zebra Trail. Someone else will know... But IMO this is an interesting move and probably an IMPROVEMENT. From there you will be able to see the Arusha Savanna, and therefore ANIMALS. Couldn't do that from the original lounge;)

Also, the suite is quite gorgeous (I've seen pics, not stayed there), so it should make for a stunning atmosphere for snacking and relaxing. Don't worry!! The construction traffic and noise on the (small) 6th floor was obviously too much. Also the 5th floor will probably be more convenient anywayprincess:

My thought is that the OP is trying to book or has already booked the Royaly Assanti suite for part of her wedding package and has now been told that it won't be available during her stay because it is going to be used for the Concierge lounge temporarily.

We're staying AKL concierge level at the end of November. I will be interested in keeping up with these developments as our trip time nears.

No - she had asked whether it was available and was told no. That suite has not been available for quite some time, just as many rooms on the 5th floor have not been available.

The Royal Asante suite is on the 5th floor, Kudu Trail, just off the lobby. It's actually very easy to get to and I'm sure for a temporary location, it'll be quite a treat! (We just stayed Club Level late May and now I'm kind of sorry I missed this relocation!) :)

This info is now several weeks old, but as of late May - all the 5th floor rooms on Kudu were still available to guests - all other 5th floor rooms were closed off and having their contents removed. :)

The IPO told me via phone about 2 weeks ago that the lounge would not be moving before our August trip if at all.... not sure how I feel about the move...as long as there are pleasent seating areas in the lounge I guess I don't care that much.

Oooo!!! I am even MORE excited!!! eeeeee! I hope the construction doesn't disturb the animals. I'm just always a dork with animals and hope they are happy,

Yes, I am happy to have the lounge overlooking the savannah. I guess I am just worried about the noise and construction. We have only stayed in a savannah view deluxe concierge room the two other times we have stayed and upgraded to a suite for 1/2 the group and deluxe concierge for the others. At this point, they can't even tell me where they might be located. Since we have mobility issues, I was hoping to be close to the lounge AND have savannah view---especially for the amount of money we're spending for the 2 bedroom suite. I'm sure everything will be fine. Just wish it weren't so up in the air.

I actually just talked to Don and he said pretty soon the the lounge will be moved back as the inside construction is almost done. I am SAD that I won't get to see all the animals in the pres. sweet though. I was excited.

For what it is worth I got an email today from the AKL concierge (I had emailed about a confirmation number for the sunrise safari reservations and decided as long as I was asking....!!)

She said in fact the lounge had moved yesterday to the Asante Suite (room 5211) and would still be there until after our stay the first week of August, but everything else would remain the same (services, hours, food and beverage service, etc). We had a standard Kilamanjaro Club room booked and she said it would "absolutely" be a savannah view room.

I just hope there is adequate sitting room in the lounge...I always loved having my AM coffee overlooking the lobby...although I guess overlooking the savannah wouldn't be shabby either!

Oh and she did say since they had relocated you would be required to show your room key everytime you entered the lounge, since it is on the 5th floor and there is not controlled elevator access.

A nice maid at the AKL once showed me & a friend around the suites (plus, I'd seen them on Great Hotels) and gosh are they gorgeous! The main living room especially! I'd be interested to see how they set everything up and which rooms they'll have available as the lounge...(anybody who's going soon...be sure to take pics!)
