Hi :wave2:
I have never posted on this particular forum so pardon me if this has been asked 100 times already.
My bf and I are in the early stages of planning wedding & disneymoon. (Very early stages, he hasn't even picked out my engagement ring yet) But we know what we want in terms of a wedding and a honeymoon. The wedding won't be at WDW, but the disneymoon will. I am a DVC member so the majority of the trip we'll stay at SSR.
However, I wanted to do something special to begin the trip. He's never been before and I want him to be blown away. So I was thinking as a suprise, spend the weekend at AKL and get a concierge room. (dad's footing the bill)
Has anyone stayed in one, and what were your impressions?
TIA
:)

We stayed at the AKL for part of our honeymoon, and loved it. We didn't stay concierge, we did have a savannah view room. I can't wait to stay there again. I think AKL would be a great place to start a disneymoon, and staying concierge would make it even better!

Those were my thoughts, too! I'd never splurge and do it for myself if it wasn't for a honeymoon, so I should just go for it. I've never stayed concierge anywhere for anything!

I have stayed at the AK (not concierge but Savannah view) and is was great would do it again but I feelt he Poly Cocierge would be more romantic. We stayed here the very first time we went and it was awesome every night we would sit on the swings on the beach and watch the fireworks an electric light parade, so nice. We have stayed at the concierge at the Poly, the GF and the Yacht Club and found the Poly to be the best as far as food and drink selection. I have recommended this to people at work and all that have gone have loved it. Just my opinion, but either way you will be in a great resort, we loved waking up every day at the AK lodge and seeing the giraffe.

Thanks for the advise! The Poly is a beautiful resort and that is a great idea!
However, my heart is set on AKL Concierge :lovestruc

We have stayed at AKL concierge (though for our first anniversary, not our actual honeymoon), and we LOVED it. It’s such a terrific resort, and the concierge level there is especially wonderful. The lounge is large and overlooks the gorgeous lobby. The food offerings are all very good as well. We also found their pre-planning staff to be very helpful with our dining requests and any other needs we had. Plus, they offer two very special savannah touring experiences: the Sunrise Safari and the Sunset Safari. Here’s a link to a page with more information about those as well as the resort in general: http://www.allearsnet.com/acc/faq_akl.htm. We did the Sunrise Safari and can’t say enough good things about it—we would do it again in a heartbeat. Also, here is a link to my pictures of the resort, concierge lounge, and our room: http://www.kodakgallery.com/I.jsp?c=9nofjoj.bztbff6b&x=0&y=-9ms517

I’m happy to answer any questions you might have. :)

Thank you so much Elizabeth! I checked out your photos, they're great!
Another question-I read ina guidebook about the Savannah romance dinner where they serve you dinner in your balcony or in your room for $100. Do you know if they still do that? I would rather do that than the Safaris, because I had wanted a no parks at all weekend to begin the honeymoon with.

hmgolden, were was your picture taken?

The picture in my signature was taken in Cinderella Castle during our MK photo shoot early in the morning a couple days after our wedding.

We didn’t do that, but I believe they still offer it. If my memory serves, I think they offered it on the room service menu when we were there back in December. On the All Ears website, it is still listed on the room service menu as of February 2005: http://www.allearsnet.com/menu/menu_aklin.htm

I think you’ve got a good idea to have a restful first weekend. Goodness knows we were exhausted on our honeymoon. I think it’s just a lot of emotional highs and stresses to come down from. In case it fits your needs better, the Sunset Safari is actually offered on the grounds of the Animal Kingdom Lodge instead of in the park itself. It is also for a much smaller group of people and includes dinner with wine pairings at Jiko. It would probably be much more relaxing than the Sunrise Safari, especially since you wouldn’t have to get up at the crack of dawn. :teeth:

You couldn't make a better choice. AKL concierge is outstanding..the best on disney property. The resort is fantastic. Very romantic, Hubby and I can spend a long weekend there and never leave the resort, it is that wonderful. Congrats!

Elizabeth, you are so helpful! I am on Deb's site all the time and never noticed that before!
I hadn't heard of the sunset safari at the Lodge itself, only the one at the park was I aware of. that sounds exactly what I had in mind, where I didn't want to do the parks and get up so early.
You're great! :)

Thanks, that great to know! Where it's his 1st trip there, I wanted to start it off low key, and have a romantic time before hitting the parks full throttle. I know he'll love WDW as much as I do, but I don't want to overwhelm him right off the bat.

We love the AKL Concierge. They have a great food selection and were always very helpful. The views are great and the resort is a lot of fun. It's great to stay there if you want to visit the AK for a day or two. Otherwise, it is a little far from things. However, my husband and I found it romantic and are staying there again.

I must say though we love the Wilderness Lodge Concierge. We stayed there for our honeymoon and since that time also. It is also very romantic and I love it there too.

Would recommend both!

Lisa
