AKL Concierge has a really terrific selection of foods at their concierge lounge. Up until this year, I *would* have said better than the Grand's even .. though since the Grand has "spiffed up" their offerings, they come out ahead this time! LOL The ONLY thing I think the Grand ought to do is put in one of those fabulous cappachino/espresso machines!! (Come on Tony .. if you're reading this, you can pass that on to them! <g>)

Here's what I found as the offerings this year:

BREAKFAST
Oatmeal; raisins, brown sugar, dried apricots and almonds; assorted juice boxes; mango, orange, pineapple & apple juice; frosted flakes, raisin bran, cheerios, fruit loops; croissants, blueberry, bran and banana nut muffins; whole fruits; white and wheat bread and yogurts too.

LUNCH
Veggie Chips, pumpkin seeds, spicy snack mix, whole fresh fruit; PB&J sandwiches, gummies, goldfish, cinnamon sugar pita crisps, pretzels, iced tea, African smoothies, lemonade.

SNACKS
The same items, minus the sandwiches, that are on for lunch.

DINNER
Sugar Cane Chicken, peanut sauce, Kalamata olive hummus, roasted red pepper and tomato hummus, smoked almonds, beef satay, smoked gouda and cheddar cheese, regular gouda, and swiss cheese too, crackers, salted pita crisps, spicy snack mix. There was also a selection of South African wines, including a chardonnay, a merlot, a shiraz and a cabernet, as well as a white zinfandel.

DESSERT
Mini key lime pies; mini cheesecakes; mini fruit tarts, brownies, cupcakes, 3 types of cookies .. no zebra domes this time that I saw though! There was also a selection of after dinner drinks too, including Grand Marnier, Sambuca, Frangelica, Kahlua.

Did you find that the selections vary from day to day? I'm not sure if my children would go hog wild over some of these items, except for maybe the PB&J!

Gosh, this thread made me HUNGRY. ;) By the way, I *love* the pumpkin seeds in the AKL's lounge. Yum!

The evening offerings varied a little. There was usually some type of meat on a stick. Usually 2 kinds. Most nights they had chicken fingers or some other hot offering for kids. A couple of nights they had jumbo shrimp.

When we were there in July they also had a nice selection of bagels and some fresh pastries out for breakfast. I didn't see any pb&j when they had snacks out. I'm sure you could probably ask and get one. When we went up during afternoon tea they only had the snacks out that were left over from earlier. They also had some delicious scones and cookies along with brownies and rice krispie treats. Their evening selection was very good. We had the hummus, cheese & crackers and there were also; two differnt rolled tortillas one with veggie filling and one with beef, nut crusted salmon, a beef kabob with sauce, and some pork meatballs. They also had the pb&j's and chicken nuggets.
You have to ask for water and pop but that's not a problem. They have milk including chocolate out all day. They have juice boxes out all day too. My favorite was getting a cappachino and taking it back to the room and drink it on the balcony. My youngest dd loved the African smoothie. The wines are very good too.

The oatmeal was really good. It was the kind that you actually cook in a pot, rather than packets of instant oatmeal. It was rich and creamy, yummy! They had several toppings, including brown sugar, granola-y type stuff, mini-chocolate chips, etc.

FYI--the wines they serve are all from the Indaba vineyards. The Chardonay is quite sweet, I don't recall if I tried any of the others.
