AKL Bound...See you next Saturday!!!

I started a May photopass thread for those of us who are in it. Follow the link...if you want to check your information.

So the painting is finally done. Austin is so excited to no longer have hot pink walls....and I am grateful it is done. I hear a bottle of wine, bubbles and a hot bath calling my name.

Hello, you had pm'd me about meals. Either I have lots of great advice, or I am just wordy (perhaps the later lol) SO I thought I would c&p here if you don't mind.

Hi! The biggest factors for us was the cost. Seemed like (esp for 4) that it was pretty expensive. You could average about $8 or so per person on average. I just didn't want to spend that much. Sure, I could have let my kids have a free for all with food and let them pick what they wanted. But I just couldnt. lol Thats a lot of money!
So, Let's see. We stayed at the ASmovies. Not sure where you are planning on staying. For here we would get the burgers. I could get the dbl cheese burger and get and extra bun. They have a little condiments bar with lettuce and pickles and...tomatoes I think. So it filled us up lots. The refillable mugs, GREAT purchase. You can also get coffee, hot chocolate (rich and smooth, not watery), and I drank a lot of pink lemonade. We were just saying how it'd be nice to have some now. ;) The kids just shared a kids meal. It was plenty for them both. Again, our son loves lettuce for some reason...and will munch on tomatoes. So those are some filling points. ANd I would generally get a chocolate or reg milk...again, filling and much needed nurtrition! :) I noticed you are staying at WL, Im sure burgers are offered, they seem to be a staple everywhere in DW. lol
Ok, I'm trying to trace my tracks on vacation. Epcot-We were NOT impressed with Electric Umbrella. Not much variety at all. We ate (I think it was called Sunshine Seasons) and there was lots to choose from. The kids chose a kids meal (mini sub, applesauce, grapes and milk I believe) and I had a kids meal that was from the asian booth (plenty of food really!) and DH had the same as the kids. We also were shocked to find a garden side salad for $2.50 (or so..) which we all shared. It was plenty.
Magic Kingdom-We had an 805 Crystal Palace reservation. Best reservation ever! The food was awesome, the characters were great! It was decently cheap (For DW!!) and was really great! I will want to do this one again! MK is gorgeous this time of day. We also ate at Cassey's Corner. It is a hot dog place. Not super cheap, but it was yummy. Seating was a slight issue. Again, lots of condiments, and what child doesn't like a hot dog? ;) Very yummy! Another time we had a turkey leg and cream cheese filled pretzel. I didn't like neither. I eat anything, I didn't care for either of these. I knew I wouldnt like the turkey leg, I heard it was like ham, and it is. lol Im not a ham person. DH and Ds and dd gobbled it up though! SLUSHIES! What a great treat to cool everyone off. A great spot for slushies is over by the Aladdin's carpets. it's behind it by the bazaar. It's a nice little retreat,a nd as we were sitting, Aladding nad Jasmin came out...it was a character spot! We had some great time with them! Really great!! :) I can't believe we forgot to try a dole whip...and I know you have heard it before, but you will never get to do everything youw ant. It's unbelievable, but true! Ok, also, we ate at Pecos Bills. I highly recommend this place. They have an awesome condiments bar. Again the with teh dbl burger and extra bun. ALSO! I highly suggest, the Spectromagic parade is awesome! We saw it twice, your dd will LOVE it! We always saw it down near frontierland (close to Pecos Bills) My suggestion, 30 mins prior to the show, get seats right outside the Pecos doors. It's a great angle to see the parade from! We didn't realise this in time, but next time we go, that is where we will sit! Ok, again another tid bit. If you are at Pecos Bills at fireworks time. (believe it or not we didn't go right to the castle for the fireworks at all..a shock that I was fine with this, but it is best to be easy going than not lemme tell ya! lol) If you are at Pecos, sit at the tables outside (on the side of pecos bills) and way over to the uncovered area. Its the furthest sets of tables you can go to. You will be able to see the fireworks. :)
Hollywood Studios-Not as much selection and variety. We bought a salted pretzel...SO GROSS. DOn't buy them. Now Im trying to think of the little spot we got our lunch. I believe it was right at the beginning of Sunset BLVD. The street you go down to tower of terror. It is a sandwich place. DH and I got this whoppin' ham sandwich with chips, the kids got the PB&J sandwhich combo. Applesauce and grapes (their faves at this point) ANd we got a big sticky bun to all share for dessert. It came to a little over $20 Which is good. if it doesn't hit $30, you are doing very well! ;)
AK-We only did a half a day here. It was so crowded and we were tired and cranky. We did get some onion rings at Flamming tree. They were huge and very yummy. :)
Downtown Disney- ok, this sounds silly. We are from New Brunswick Canada. We were actually missing our home, and snow, and our Christmas spirit so much by this point we were ready to head home early (which we should have since we got caught in 2 snow storms..but anyway) We did DTD 2 times. Great place! Loved it! We found a McDonalds. We were so happy. It was our comfort food. Not super cheap, but better than the parks. AND we didn't have to share. Kids got happy meals, with a toy. They were HAPPY! We will be doing this McDonalds again. We also did the imfamous T-Rex. It was nice. Different. We actually met a good friend from Miss. there. We struck up a friendship on here months back and we got to meet! :) Food was good! Not super cheap, but it was a treat for us.

OH YES! We did Chef Mickeys breakfast. It was good! Great for the kids to get that one on one time with the characters so we didnt have to really do it in the parks. Love the contemporary. Hopefully we will stay there next time. I did prefer the food a little more at Crystal Palace. Which at both places I grabbed a few pieces of whole fruit and put it in my back pack. Bananas, Apples, oranges. If the kids got hungry at any one point and we werent near a food station (which could only possibly be at AK as food is everywhere in the other parks) it was a great resource to have!!

Ok, there we have it. I think I got it all in. lmao! SOrry for it being so long!

Also, I wanted to say. I was going into our vacation wanting the DLX DP. Then the Canadian dollar dropped by about .18 cents and the math didnt add up at all. I wanted to be free of worries about money or anything, but i soon realized our money was better in our pockets than spent at DW. We saved a lot of money by going CS with a cpl sit downs. i was stubborn and didn't believe anybody when they told me this though. lol Now, We did try a side at the Moroccan pavillion and they were $2.50. I wanted to try some things exotic. It was interesting. DS loved it. Also, we could get individually wrapped french chocolates (across from the french bakery which was expensive enough). OH! We also ate from the CS at the UK Pavillion. Fish and chips. Wasn't a huge portion. 2 did us all since ds wasn't willing to eat. Japan's store...at the very back... has some great litle candies, lots of variety, most are cently priced. And we also got a rice krspie square (huge) for about $3 I think in NOrway. Lots for all 4 of us. :)

I can post some pics of food here for ya if you would like. They are slowly being added to photobucket.

I really hope this helps! I SO can't wait to go back, but other things like selling our house should come first. lol :) Have a great time, enjoy your vacation!!! THe kids will LOVE it!! (Best rides at MK was Philarmagic, PeterPan, dd loves carousels..so ya know... but definitely do the 3D shows. I was against them, but so worth going to check out! ANd stay away from the Hunny I shrunk the kids park at Hollywood studios. It was crazy busy, as independant as my dd (close to 3 yrs) is she got lost...we were with her, then she went down a slide with her brother and he took off...I just...don't recommend it for little kids!! It scared me a little in there ...it is manned one way in and out, but still!)

ok, ok, I promise IM done my rambling. lol

I agree cs can be a good way to go, but for me it's ddpall the way!!I love the break from the parks in a comfy restaurant it just recharges me !!Also we have big eaters and splitting a kids meal wouldnot work !! I think the QS option might be worth looking at too while it is almost $30 a day for adults it's a lot cheaper for kids so for about $70 a day you would get 2 cs and 2 snax plus a mug!!

I do agree, if you can do the rest in the restaurants and such, and you aren't dealing with this bad Canadian dollar, then I would consider the dining plan. This way we allieviate the stress of everyone sharing. Plus with your little guy being under 2 he gets everything for free (he wouldn't be included in the dp, but Im sure everyone's meals is plenty enough) What was hard for us is that we took afternoon breaks (except for at Hollywood studios) which were really a necessity for the late nights and such. THe buses, albeit we never had horrifying experiences, just ate up too much time. Hence why I would love to do Contemporary resort next time. It's along the monorail, there are restaurants at Poly and Grand Floridian we can explore, along with the parks.
Anyhoo... do what you feel comfortable with. What you can afford. :) SEe, when our dollar plummited... for $1000 we got $780 american dollars. So it was hard to justify getting the dp, plus the tips on top of it all. Hopefully next time though, hopefully!!

I love the rooms and the accent walls . The colors are so nice.

Your son's name reminds me of what a nurse asked me when I was pregnant with my youngest. My sons names are Tyler and Dallas, she asked me if I had another one was I going to name him Austin? I told her "probably not, but I am kinda partial to Houston"................:lmao:

ohhhhhhhhhhhh you will be leaving our first full day there. We will drive in on Friday, it takes us about 7-8 hours, and just chillin' Friday night because we will not get there until about 10pm. Our first full day will be Saturday the 16th.

We stayed at POR in 2002. We didn't care for it too much because we were wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy back on the property and the walk to buses and the food court was at least 20 minutes, or 100 miles as Dallas said..........:rotfl:.

Yeah, your schedule looks great! We'll be there at the same time, but our schedules are different. Well, that's until the hours for May are posted. I'm sure schedules will change then!

Yeah...I know when the May hours come out. Sounds like Feb. 1st. I may totally be changing on my plans. We shall see. We have been home with sick kids for the last 2 days. Ugh. Plus it is 20 below without the wind chill factor. I am sure tomorrow will make 4 days in a row that school is canceled. We are going to be going into June this year. I will try and post some photos of all the snow. We got another 6 inches again last night. There is well over 4 feet on the ground.

That will help having the hours. I always end up changing everything.

We lived in the DC area for awhile and got 3 ft in one weekend. I enjoyed it. Luckily it hit Friday night and continued into Sunday, so made a nice weekend that got extended when everything was closed Monday. Please post pics, I do love the snow.

I can't imagine that wind chill though.

So this is the snow...Too bad I can't show pictures of how cold it is...-40!Then again who would want to see that? Suppose to be a heat wave tomorrow and hit 15.:cool1: Sure makes me look forward to our trip in May.

I feel the same way! I am sooooo ready for May:yay:

May change Biergarten to Marrakesh. We had some friends just return from there and they loved. Think DD would LOVE the belly dancing. Anyone else been?

So I found zazzle thanks to another diser. Looks like a great way to make t-shirts for our 1st trip. I also just got done ordering Red Mickey luggage, a red disney fleece pullover and a Troy cup for DD (Valentines). Can't wait. We had been looking for luggage forever and it was on sale for $49.99. Plus I got free shipping, too!

So now I am thinking about doing Epcot 2 times. We really want to eat at Biergarten and Marrakesh. We were going to take a day off from the parks, so we could just go one night and do dinner and relax during the day.

Hopefully we can hook up for a May meet as well? :grouphug:

Wow! I've never seen that much snow. I could definitely see how you could sick of that much snow.

I've never been to Biergarten but I loved Marrakesh. On the last trip we decided to change our last day to Epcot instead of DHS. We went up to guest relations near spaceship earth. We wanted ADRs for lunch and dinner. For lunch we went to Marrakesh and dinner was at Tokyo Dining. We definitely loved both. Marrakesh actually had a lunch special which including an appetizer, entree, and dessert for less than 15 dollars. DH and I both got it. The appetizer was a cucumber salad but I don't remember anything else. The belly dancer was very entertaining.

You got some great stuff. I bet the Mickey luggage is adorable. When we signed up for our Disney Visa we got a set of red Mickey luggage for free!! I love it. The only problem is that it looks just like everyone else's luggage at Disney. I saw so many people with the same one. I'm probably just going to put luggage tags on it, just in case. But normally we just bring in our own luggage. I can't remember if they let you do that at AKL though. Of course you can at the values.

I'm glad you'll get to go to both of the restaurants!

I just found your pre-trip report and wanted to say "Hi" :wave2: We are also going to Disney for the very first time in May. We will be there May 2-10 and staying at POP.

One of my best friends lives in Winterset, Iowa. We were lucky enough to go visit with her a few years ago, and went to the Covered Bridge Festival in Madison County. We stayed in West Des Moines.

Sooo sorry that your being hit with the COLD temps like that - it is nice here, in the upper 60's, we just got back from a day at the park.

Anyway, love hearing all the plans for your up-coming trip! We also have ressies for Cinderella's Royal Table (on the 8th) & Chef Mickeys (on the 3rd). Now just waiting for those May hours to be released! Oh yeah, I also ordered that red Mickey luggage from disneyshopping.com, and have been buying the kids Disney clothes & putting them back for the trip (so you are definitely not alone, lol) My hubby doesn't understand my weird Disney obsession ..... thank goodness for everyone here on the DIS ..... all the planning makes time fly by faster. :)

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but I had to say, "Hi!" :wave2: My sister's name is Jana too!!
