Never been to AKL so looking for the pros and cons of the different resorts there. What resort and view should I book in hopes to see the animals? Which is better and more convenient for pool and quick serve. 2 adults and a 6 and 8 yr. old Thank you

To have the best chance of seeing animals, you need to book Savanna View.

I phrase it that way because they are free-range (to a degree) and choose where to go and when to go there within their allowed range of movement.

The Mara is in Jambo with Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner quick service. Also has Boma (buffet) and Jiko (table service) restaurant. Kidani has Sanaa which is quick service breakfast and table service lunch and dinner.

Both have solid pools. Kidani has epic splash pad. You can access both pools and restaurants regardless of which you book.

We love Jambo over Kidani just for the fact that everything is there at Jambo, both places have areas where you can view the Animals but we always get a Savannah view room, my wife loves just sitting on the verandah watching the view for basically hours !! A lot of times she will meet us later in the day at whatever park we’re at so she can just relax and view the surroundings

Great timing on this thread, I have lots of the same questions! I’ll add one too, are there any overwhelming smells with Savanah view? I’ve never expired any visiting AK, so just wondered.

The best time and place to see the Animals is starting around Dinner time 5PM in the main viewing area. There are no smells and smile as you are ALWAYS on camera on your balcony... closely on the Savannah side to protect the animals. If you are in your room a lot you will always see something from birds to Giraffe but mostly birds and a few smaller animals. The animals are in fact fed on each part of the Savannah which is the time you will see the most. Ask a guide and they should have the time. There are other things that happen based on weather and normal movement all day and night..... But by Best time it is when they are fed.... Sit on your Balcony for 3 hours you may see little or something amazing as well as looking out at 3am or in the first 3 minutes of sitting outside otherwise as above ask..... Always still a great view even with few animals.

My opinion is the Mara is one of the better quick service restaurants, at least of the resorts we’ve tried and/or stayed at. The breakfasts all seem pretty similar. One can eat fairly healthy or load up on Mickey waffles :)

We were on Kudu Trail in Jambo; our room was very near the elevators.

This is a great view. Being near the elevators is a huge bonus. What room # and type is this?

I have nothing but love of both Jambo and Kindani - and they are a five to ten minute walk between so it’s not a big deal to book at one over the other since you have access to both. Yes, Savannah view over looks one of the savannahs, but both have large sit down viewing areas onto the Savanah’s that all resort guests can use.

It was a Savannah view, Kudu Trail 4256 (if I’m recalling correctly). That room had a bee hive growing in the timbers hanging over our balcony; we alerted the desk and they said they’d have a bee keeper come relocate the hive. We were there April 4 to 11th so it’s probably gone by now.

I was very happy with our view..we had excellent views of giraffes trying to bend down far enough to get water, and stretching their necks to get the tasty leaves just out reach on the other side of the fencing. The funniest was when the birds (I can’t recall the species) were, I think, flirting. One handsome specimen was carrying around a stick until another distracted him in order to snatch the stick, which he did. Then THAT bird strutted round the pond with the stick taunting…or flirting, I couldn’t tell lol. It was fun to watch.

(ETA: I had a video of the bird carrying the stick, but I don’t think I can upload video. I took a screenshot of it doing it’s thing :) He’s the bird on the bottom of the picture.

Also recommend Kudu trail as I ate many a breakfast on the balcony watching the animals eat theirs.

I don’t have much to add. I prefer Kidani over Jambo. To me it felt a little more secluded and less chaotic. If I wanted to go to Boma or the Mara (yes to both- quite tasty) they were a quick walk. Sanaa was a 2 minute walk down the hall and we went almost daily. Kids like water? My daughter’s a water bug. She much preferred the pool at Kidani over Jambo, due to the water slides.
