AKL-Aren't ALL Concierge Rooms Deluxe??

Ok, I am confused now. I was speaking to a neighbor who recently returned from AKL and she said her concierge room was a regular size room (she has stayed in a standard savannah view room before). She stayed on the 6th floor. I thought all the concierge rooms were deluxe rooms but she is insisting it seemed to be the same size as her previous room.

Just curious if she could be right or just not remembering the room size correctly?

Also--we would like to request a 5th floor room as we have heard that 6th floor concierge rooms are not available for the Arusha Savannah--is this correct? We would really like that to request that savannah and chose to ask for the 5th floor even though we would have to use the elevator to access the concierge lounge. Anyone else done this before and have any comments about their experience.

What savannah views are available on the 6th floor (we need N/S & 2 queen beds but other that we are flexible).

TIA!

I think most of the rooms on the 6th floor are smoking.

I'm sure someone may have information otherwise. If you need non-smoking I wouldn't stay on the 6th floor. If you stay concierge, just request non/smoking and the savannah you request. Put them in order of importance. They will do whatever they can to meet your requests but they aren't guaranteed.

I thought most of the rooms on the 6th floor actually had pool views?

Anyone else have any info?

Bottom line, concierge will do whatever they can to make sure you have a great room.

From my planning with the concierge staff for our upcoming May trip _ I was told that the 6th floor rooms are smoking optional and are pool views.

I thought the concierge rooms were the deluxe type. However, I've read that during busy times they sometimes have to go outside the 5th and 6th floors for concierge rooms. Maybe that's when they've used the regular savannah rooms.

I'm sure someone will come along and add to this.

Hope you've gotten some of your answers.

Liz

All concierge are deluxe.

All smoking optional rooms on the 6th floor are pool view.

6th floor non-smoking rooms are savana view, but have an obstructed view due to overhanging roof. Views are much better on 5th floor. Arusha is not available for 6th floor - only sunset.

If you have a medical need for n/s (asthma, allergies, etc.) make sure it is noted and they will do their best.

We stayed concierge in February and had a lot of problems with our room assignment. Turns out the front desk does the assigning, not the concierge staff. Check in as early as possible and make sure your requests are met. If you get to your room and it is not what you want, call immediately and the staff will do their best to get you what you really want.

Almost all rooms have 2 queens - bunkbeds and king beds are hard to come by. I think you have a pretty good chance of getting what you want.

Thanks for the replies so far. I have a feeling the rooms just "seemed" smaller to her as she had 3 others in the room this trip as opposed to just her and her DH the previous trip.

I also thought that the 6th floor rooms were smoking optional, that is another reason why we did not want to be on the 6th floor as DH & DS are really bothered by smoke and I have asthma so it bothers me as well. We were hoping to have 5th floor, N/S, 2 Q beds and Arusha savannah. Hopefully January will be slow and they can accomodate all the requests but I know we will be happy as long we have N/S and 2 Queens.

Thanks again and any other info, comments or suggestions would be great!

LizL-thanks for the info, you were posting while I was typing! :)

What kinds of problems did you run into and how did the situation turn out? TIA!

Hi LizL

Funny, I'm a LizL too. Your's is the first post I've read where someone in concierge had problems with their requests.

What kinds of problems did you have and how were they resolved? If you don't mind my asking.

Thanks,
Liz

We've stayed on the NS side of the 6th floor on the Sunset Savannah side of the resort. We really like it up there- usually it's really quiet.
My DH has asthma also, usually it's dormant, but smoke can aggrevate it. We had no problems at all up there. We had a King room, but I couldn't really tell you if it was a Deluxe or not. DH almost didn't want to leave the hotel, so I think he liked it!

Good luck, and I hope that this information helps you.

We were in a concierge room on the 5th floor in December 2001. The room DID NOT sleep five, it DID NOT have a day bed. It did have an overstuffed chair as well as the table and chairs, and might have been a *smidge* larger than a standard room, but it was not what I'd call a deluxe room.

All concierge rooms are deluxe rooms. There are various configurations. The ones that have two queen beds do not have a day bed in the room. The queen/bunk and king bedded rooms have the day bed. We had requested a bunk bed room, and I was informed by the concierge staff that a party of 5 gets priority to those rooms and as a party of 4, they might not be able to meet our request. The rooms do feel a bit smaller than similiar sized rooms (YC and BC), and I think it has to do with the darkness of the furniture, as well as the size of the furniture. The furniture is rather large, and takes up more space than the furniture at the YC and BC. We did the exact request you are asking for and it wasn't a problem We were located on the 5th floor, withan ARusha savannah view. As previously reported the 6th floor concierge savannah view rooms overlook the Sunset savannah.

Anne-
Thanks for the info. I was looking at the room layouts here on the dis:
http://www.wdwinfo.com/aklodge/roomlayout.htm#Deluxe Queen Room

and it looks like the deluxe rooms are supposed to be about 37 sq ft larger than the regular rooms (344 vs 381). I guess the daybeds are hit or miss in these rooms as I have heard that some rooms have them, some don't. It looks like the deluxes either have a daybed or an overstuffed chair, but the standard rooms do not. I don't have any experience with a deluxe room or concierge (not at WDW) so I guess we won't know if our room is larger or not-lol!

How did you feel about having to go up one floor to use the concierge services/lounge? I know from reading posts here that you have lots of experience with concierge so I am curious what you thought.

Karen-

It didn't bother me at all. At the GF or Polynesian it's probably not going to be on your floor, and if you are in a Garden Suite at the BWI it's like walking to Epcot to get to the concierge lounge! On our last AKL trip we were on the third floor (entry level from the front of the resort, at the very most end of the hall, so it was a bit of an excuriosn to the concierge lounge, but even with the elevator, never more than a couple of minutes.

Anne-
In your experience, do you find that the concierge level rooms are usually full booked. I've heard people say that they are not on the 5th and 6th floors when they stay concierge because it was packed on those floors.

The first time we were there was for Walt's 100th B-Day, December 5, 2001. The place was crawling full, BUT WDW had invited thousands of media and celebrities as their guests for the celebration, and many were being hosued at the AKL.

This last visit was very off-peak, and there's no way it was full, maybe 50% at best it seemed.

I just wanted to point out that there is NO SMOKING allowed on any of the balconies with Savannah views. I am a smoker, but was only able to get a deluxe savannah room in Non Smoking, so I figured I would just use the balcony to smoke. Within 5 minutes, a CM was knocking on my door! He stated that I was caught on camera smoking on the balcony and how dangerous it was for the animals. I thought that was a bit over the top, but I obliged. Just don't want anyone else to go through that embarrasing situation that I did.

Anne-
Thanks again for the info! I think we will be excited to see the resort and check out all the areas so being one floor down is no big deal. Hopefully we'll get the view we want.

BTW-great pics of your Disney cruise, my DH saw them and now he wants to book one! Also I saw your pics of the new Grand 1 and she is very sharp looking! :)
