Now, in a perfect world, I know I would want to book savannah view. Next year, we are taking family w/ us. We are thinking about AKL. Pointswise, we're not sure if we'll be able to book all savannahview or not, depending on what we want to do with the following year's points.

So, my question is, do you see animals at all(not from rooms) anywhere else in the resort? Meaning, if we don't book savannah views, do we have a decent chance of actually seeing animals while hanging out around the resort at all(not in our rooms) I hope I'm making sense:scratchin

Absolutely! there are many observation areas & the cms are wonderful there. in addition to the observation areas, i remember a giraffe coming our direction by the pool!!! ;)

Animal Programs & Other Recreational Activities

Disney's Animal Kingdom Villas offer educational programs and fun activities that are led by our animal experts and offer up-close encounters with the exotic creatures that inhabit the grounds (some of these activities are subject to change):
•Flamingo feeding at Flamingo Pond (flamingo food must be purchased)
•Night vision viewing of animals
•Animal tracking at Arusha Rock
•Wildlife games
•Cultural safaris
•African arts and crafts
•Campfire storytelling
•Camp Kidani for families to explore African culture
•Simba's Cubhouse activity center and babysitting
•Pumbaa's Fun & Games Arcade
•Safari So Good Arcade
•Basketball, Shuffleboard and Tennis Courts

There are huge viewing windows in the hallways at Kidani. So, even if your room faces away from the savannah, you get to see many animals on the walk from the lobby to your room. There is also a great viewing area off of the lobby, off of the community hall, and outside of Sanaa.

Thanks. That helps a lot! Especially since we don't actually spent a ton of time in our rooms.:)

But the real treat at AKV is sitting on the balcony in your PJs in the morning drinking coffee or OJ and watching the animals. You can't do that in the viewing areas.

Yes!:thumbsup2

Even saying this, however, I do book rooms that aren't savannah view sometimes, because I love AKV!

We stayed at AKV, Kidani, Studio, Savanna view with our 2 kids last October. We loved the savanna view--favorite part was sitting on the balcony after the kids fell asleep, sharing a bottle of wine, and watching the animals at night. We had zebras and ostriches right by us. Also, our trip was rainy, so we ended up back in the room more than we'd normally be and enjoyed looking out at the 'wet' animals. If we stay at AKV again, I'd only book a savanna view!

I know and would love to do it. We still may. But, we're booking rooms for my mom and my sister's family, so it's A LOT more points for us than usual. That's the only reason we're considering a standard room for this particular trip.

The viewing areas in the lobby have awesome rockers......so relaxing!!

Above and beyond the observation area's I've booked a standard view 2br three times over the last year and 1/2 and have gotten partial views of the Pembeh savannah from our balcony!

This was our view Aug 2011 / Feb 2012 and a month ago we had views of the back fence where they had feeding areas with animals morning and night! We've been tickled pink with the views :lovestruc

And in the early evening with a glass of wine. Heaven!

After seeing those pics, hearing about the rockers, I really want to talk DH into staying there. He's still leaning towards VWL. My sister and mom would LOVE AKL, though. I just know it!!

I just came back from AKV-Jambo, savannah view studio last night, and I'm probably in a small minority in saying that I wouldn't spend the points for a savannah view again. There are so many lovely areas to see the animals, my favorite is the Sunset Lounge, just off the lobby, that I'd rather save the points-

There are also lovely little benches in the halls-

Whatever type of view you get, you'll hopefully love AKV.

It's simply a fantastic place no matter what room you get. You will see tons of animals and will love it!

Hi Simba's Mom, how was your vacation?!!!

Nice picture! I like viewing the animals from the Sunset Lounge too!:goodvibes

AKL is my home resort. We have stayed savanah view before and were stuck at the outer edges away from the lobby on the wing of the bus depot. All we saw the whole time was one ostrich. The giraffs and zebrah on the sunset savanah tend to stay by the lobby. So if you do not get by the lobby you might not see that many animals.

Keep in mind after every 3-4 rooms there is a glass window to see the savanahs. Also the lobbys of both jambo and kidani have viewing sections with rocking chairs to see them.

If your not in the room all the time it might be better to get standard view and just go to the lobby to see the animals.
