Bear with me (haven't bought @ new resort yet), i still don't get it...

If I have an Oct. UY and

DVC (as example only) begins to sell AKV in February,

if i purchase immediately;

for what UY will I receive points - '06 or '07?

Agreed in general. However, some of the SSR got extra points to use that would have been from when SSR was not open. I don't recall how far back they went, I don't think it would have been far enough to work for an Oct use year. I'm thinking Dec got the previous use year points and anything else before that went to the next use year to start the points. Maybe someone else knows for sure. If you do get a use year that's after your closing, your dues will be for the amount after the use year starts, for Oct, that's 3 months of dues in 2007.

dean - that seems fair, was hoping a buy-in wouldn't include a full year's dues.

Any thoughts on min. points (hope they stick w/the current 25 cash & 50 finance).

Would hate to see a mandatory point requirement (in the range of 150). Has this ever happened before w/new resort offering?

I doubt they'll change the minimum in any way. Eventually they'll likely raise the minimum to finance but we'll see. I can't speak to add ons early on but as long as I've been aware it was 25/50. There was some talk early about a requirement of 25 at your home resort and 50 at others but from what I could tell then and know now, I don't think that was every truly an accurate requirement, more of a rumor. Maybe others have different info.

When SSR was first offered to new buyers, the first Use Year available was December. Those who received a December Use Year received their first points on 12/1/03...even though the resort didn't open until May '04. The points couldn't actually be used until after the resort opened, so what they effectively received was a set of points that was only good for about 6 months.

Whether this is really a bonus or not remains to be seen. On the surface it appears that some SSR owners will eventually receive 51 years' worth of points. However, with the contracts scheduled to end on January 31, 2054, they could only have 2 months to use the last set of points. Probably depends a lot on how DVC handles the finite supply of rooms in the final few years.

As for AKV, another thing they could do is offer Developer's Points as an incentive. Some would argue that the added incentive may not be necessary with a resort like AKV, but the sales numbers for the last few years seem to indicate that DVC didn't really need to offer as much as they did to sell SSR.
