Akershus with a 2 yo...

We have reservations for dinner at Akershus with our 2 yo. Since she is under 3, we will not have to pay separately for her, and she will eat off of our plates. Does this mean that she will not have the option to eat the children's selections? I'm wondering if she will actually eat any of the "adult" Norwegian selections that are listed on the menu, does anyone know if they will bring out childrens option even though she is supposedly eating off of our plate? And a general question... how is the meal at Akershus served? I have heard it is family style, but do we choose among the entrees, or do they bring them all out? How does the family style work here?

There is a buffet that has salad, cold pasta, boiled shrimp, etc. Everything is cold. Don't know about your child, but mine wouldn't have eaten anything on it at 2. The adult entrees aren't really child friendly in my opinion. Maybe some mashed potatoes or something like that. You could just order a childs meal. I think my daughter ordered a hot dog there. The food there is fairly good. The childrens choices are limited. My daughter is very picky. Perhaps there is something that you could share. Check out the menu. You may find something that will work!

Sorry if I didn't clarify. The entrees aren't family style. You get to go to the cold buffet then your entree is brought to you at your table. Hope this helps!!

You can order a childs menu item oop or you can order your adult meal from the children's menu and let her share. Mine ate the fruit off the buffet and then ate some of my meat, i think i had pork shank.

Akershus is a little different than the other sit down restaurants. Even though your child is under 3, they will allow her to have her own child's meal for free along with the buffet. They always have for for us for both of our children, including our last trip in January. We usually get a little pizza for the child under 3 (my DD was just shy of 2 on our last trip) and she still enjoyed cheeses and fruit off of the cold buffet. I think they do this b/c they consider it a buffet restaurant. Have fun!

thanks a lot for the replies! That helps to clarify things a lot- I didn't know that we ordered separate entrees there, so very good to know. I'm sure she will find something to nibble on- she really doesn't eat much! Thanks again!

There is ZERO reason not to take your 2 year old to Akershus:

We did have a 2 y.o. sitting at our table in Feb. and they looooved the food there, esp. the potato salad and cold meats (not too spicy). But the little guy is used to eating the kind of food they have on the buffet (actually had fries for the first time on the WDW trip) I think it depends what they're used to eating.

We took our 2 year old last December. She loved it there. We ordered the grilled chicken off the children's menu for her and she loved it. It was probably the best she ate at a meal while she was at WDW. She ate the entire piece of chicken and some of the sides. It was so nice to have an option that she would eat that was not another fried chicken tender. I want to say we did get charged for the children's meal even though she was under 3 because we ordered off the menu, but I'm not positive on that. Mbanks those pictures are adorable!!!

This was one of our fave places in 12/2008! My son was 21 months at the time and loved it there!

On the buffet they have cold shrimp, cold cuts, fruit, etc. He loved all of that. I think we did get him a hot dog, too, but the buffet stuff would have been enough for him!
