Hi Everyone,

Looking for opinions would it look strange if an adult went to the character breakfast at Akershus Royal Banquet Hall.

I will be going in January, unfortunately, my husband won't be able to join me for a few days - I was thinking of going to the Akershus Royal Banquet Hall by myself, would it look strange? Would I scare the parents of the children that do go? :confused3

Second question is how is the food - has anyone gone? Should I reconsider this choice for either reason. I mean Chef Mickey works for me too!

TIA,

Jodi

I haven't been there for brkfst, but was there during the Princess Lunch and it was very very nice! No feeling uncomfortable, just enjoyed watching all the little Princesses interact with the Disney Princesses. Food was great! I was quite surprised because usually these Character things don't have the best of food. I can recommend lunch, but know nothing about brkfst.

I'm planning on doing a couple character meals solo in January also, including CRT (if I can get in, I'll find out tomorrow.) I dont think it will be weird at all. If you are in doubt though, bring a book to read.

Hey, I did that for dinner! It was a little strange, but a great meal, and I'm glad I went. Review: http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1070554

I have a planned lunch their with DH for my birthday weekend. I am looking forward to it. Disney is a place where everyone can become a child again.

I would say there would be nothing wrong going solo. Not sure what meal you are referring to. I did the breakfast with my boyfriend (in our 40's) for my birthday last year. While it was good I found it expensive for the amount and type of food you got - and I love breakfast food. I think we were both sorry we did not do the lunch - it is just a few dollars more, there are princesses and you get much more food.

I went last September for a late dinner (7-ish) and it was fairly empty. I was a solo traveler who didn't even know it was storybook dining until I got there.
I honestly I went for the food and atmosphere since I had worked overseas and traveled to Finland, Norway and Sweden it was neat to be there. As of the point I found out it was a princess meal though I was a bit apprehensive and brought a newspaper with me to dinner and politely requested the hostess to seat me in a remote corner.
Having said that, I do not know if it was because there weren't very many people there or if they thought I was using reverse psychology by sitting in a corner and hiding behind the Wall Street Journal but all of the princesses on duty (Aurora, Jasmine, Mary Poppins, Belle) stopped by to say hi and made some friendly comment. The two funniest comments were Mary Poppins stopped by when I was scanning the Financial section and asked if I had worked with Mr. George Banks (in the story "Mary Poppins" the father worked at a bank, I dint get the reference at the time) and Belle actually sat at my table and asked what a Blackberry was (advertisement in the WSJ) completely in character. And I then proceeded to reduce myself to a babbling idiot trying to explain what a Blackberry is ("well, ya see, its kinda like a really small book with lotsa information that magically flies into it..." you get the picture. More ironic now that the company Blackberry is defunct.

I agree with the above poster who said that the koldbord selection was sparse, but the food was quite good.
I actually got an ADR for dinner there for the next trip (Sept 2006) but this time I'm bringing my brother.
I would say to any solo diner just try it...don't go in with great expectations and keep an open mind, have fun and don't be embarrassed about it.

The breakfast was quite good. I went in December '05 with a party of 9 and enjoyed it.
