We go to WDW pretty often, about 3 times a year. Akershus Princess Storybook is always one of our not to be missed meals a)for my dd to see the princesses painlessly and b)for the great food they've had. Until Now...

On our most recent trip, March 19-24, we had lunch at Akershus and I ordered what I usually order, the Kottsjkaker, or whatever it's called the traditional dish from Norway. Well, let's just say this dish was AWFUL. I didn't eat more than one bite off it (I usually LOVED it). It had a flavoring or spice that tasted metallic and the dish has gone from a decent sized serving to one meatball floating in some "gravy". They also used to have the beets and cabbage and now it is overcooked snap peas. Well, needless to say this has been removed from our must dos. My dd's pizza was burnt. And the server didn't even care at all. Oh, and one more thing, the desserts have been switched out too. Now I'm all for GOOD change but it is quite obvious this restaurant feels they can rely on the characters to bring in the customers and no longer care about the food!

Time to find another restaurant in WDW that has not been dummed down for the masses. :headache:

No surprise there although I am disappointed as we will be trying this for the first time next month. At least I know for sure what NOT to order. Anyway, Disney is cutting costs with the economy still being down and since the princesses are there, they will still get us there, or so they believe anyway. It has worked for years with CRT after all. Sub-par food with princesses!

Sorry to hear that! What happened when you talked to the manager about your meal? Were they able to fix it?

We were in a hurry but I did ask to speak with manager and was told there was not one there at that moment and that I could wait 30 minutes to speak with one! :confused3

So, I'm just going to show my lack of support by not eating there anymore. Oh, and I was upset they "suggest" the 18% grat based on the full price of the meal, which is higher now that pictures are included. So basically you're paying server gratuity on the photo you receive.

They obviously don't have to maintain any level of quality in their food if people are going to book this retaurant to capacity just because of the princesses!

I was just sitting here debating on this restaurant for later this month (dining has a few lunch spots still open.) That is my favorite dish and you are not the only recent negative review. Someone else posted it was small and cold. guess we'll skip it this time. Too much money for mediocre food. BTW, what were the desserts for lunch- they seem to change often?

The desserts used to be that espresso sponge cake, the berry layer cake and the rice pudding but now it was the rice pudding, a STALE school bread, and a way too dense, not very sweet (think unsweetened chocolate) chocolate cake. It was not good at all IMO. Out of four of us, we left most of the desserts uneaten and we were not full from our disgusting dinners. The only redeeming point at this place is the cold bar, which never changes, and has a good selection of snacks to fill up on if need be. The $36.99 or whatever we paid is too much money for a cold bar, rushed character interaction, and a photo package with Belle.

There's much better dining choices in Epcot and you can see the characters in the countries.

Now, I've been known to recommend Akershus as the undiscovered jewel it was, but at this point, just as has been the case in many character meals, they are just not focused on delivering good service or food anymore.

We just did breakfast here and it was delicious. The food was very hot when it came out. I burned my mouth on the potatoes because I didn't know they would be that hot. :sad2:

The princesses were great. We had Cinderella, Ariel, Snow White, Aurora and of course Belle.

I steered away from lunch and dinner because of hte menu. But we were VERY happy with breakfast.

Sorry you had a bad meal. :sad1:

Glad to hear you liked the breakfast. We had dinner there last year and no one liked it. DD insisted that we go back this year. She did like the princesses. We are going for breakfast. I am hoping we will like it!

Oh, I'm happy to hear that the breakfast was good. We are planning on going for breakfast! Has anyone heard if there are many complaints about the breakfasts served here?

I've seen complains and even a friend IRL went and didn't like it. She said it was cold. I had no problems with anything. The food was piping hot and those potatoes are GOOD. DS loved the pastries. The princesses were friendly. We waited 5 minutes from check in to sit down time.

I can't complain about anything.

We ate here during the week of March 1 - March 8. We loved it. In fact, service wise, it was one of the best of our trip. We ate lunch there. We arrived a few minutes late for an 11:30 reservation. We were called right away and took our picture with Belle. Hubby had the Kjottkake. I had the salmon sandwich paired with seafood bisque. Both of us loved it, and I do remember the beets and lingonberry sauce on DH's. Maybe it was an off night during your visit (i.e. they left a subpar manager in charge). Girlies ate pizza, chicken, and hotdog - what you would expect. Dessert was awesome. Spoon bread tasted very fresh. It was one of our better dining experiences. Sorry it disappointed you.

We ate there on Feb. 16 and looooved it. I had the K??? (whatever it is, I still can't pronounce it) and loved it -- it was certainly not 1 meatball since I hardly had room for dessert. It also had the lingonberry sauce. Since we were seated as a party of 10, our group ordered a lot of different things from the menu (DD had the pizza) and everybody enjoyed their meal. Unlike a PP we enjoyed all of the desserts (the chocolate torte, rice pudding and custard filled pastry -- definitely not stale school bread)

Would have to say it must have been an off day -- the burnt pizza is a sure sign of that. I'd have sent it right back at that point. :confused3
