DH has wanted to try Akershus for the past 3 trips, so I figured this time I'd humor him and give it a try. I think he really wants to go to try the food, so we'll probably do dinner rather than breakfast.

Honestly, the food doesn't sound too appealing to me, so I'm glad our girls will at least get to see the princesses! So can anyone recommend an entree to try? I'll pretty much try anything, but none of them really sound great to me.

Thanks!

BWT, how do you say "Akershus"? We always say "AH-ker-shush" but I have a feeling that's not it! :rotfl:

I plan to eat there in September for the first time. The CM told me it was pronounced Ask Her House.

I just checked the menu on allears and the first item sounded good to me - it kind of sounds like it could be similar to a Swedish meatball (which I love) only in a patty shape. And "Ask Her House" doesn't sound to me like it could be correct because it's putting an "s" where there isn't one. I pronounce it the same way you do.

Dont know if they are on the current menu or not but the Venisen stew was good and the Salmon is good as well

That is a very good description. If you hve been to IKEA think their meatballs. DH really liked it. I enjoyed the open face salmon sandwich with soup for lunch and both my kids ate well here.

I'll first admit I do have Scandanavian ancestry, but that doesn't mean I like all foods from that region. Thankfully they don't serve Lutefisk.:scared:

Ok I've been to Akershus, and I also read the menu's before going and wasn't sure what I would eat when I got there. Once there I enjoyed the experience and then finally decided what I wanted to eat. Now I'm a big meat and potatoes kind of eater, but when it came to picking something to eat here I just picked based on what the main item was, for instance beef, chicken etc... I don't remember exactly what I picked last year when we ate here, but I will say there wasn't anything left when I was done!

So I suggest you read over the menu, but don't make your choice until you're there. Menu's change something may not be on the menu you're reading that they may be serving that day/night.

Again try ordering based on what you like for the main item, and enjoy how it is prepared the Norwegian way

You can go to forvo.com to hear how it's pronounced :) I was going to post the link but since this is my 1st post it won't allow me to :)

I really like the kjotkaker, or whatever it's called. I know I spelled it wrong, LOL. It was kind of like a cross between meatloaf and a salisbury steak patty. The potatoes that came with it were pretty good too.

Ah - ker - shoos is how I pronounce it.

That's the entree I saw on the allears menu that I thought sounded good. Don't ask me how to pronounce it, but it's called kjottkake.

I think the menu changes frequently. The allears menu is from January. When we went in January and ate there the menu was different. I ate a smoked pulled pork sandwich (which is not on allears) and it was delicious! My husband really likes the traditional kjo..... I won't even try to spell it, but you can look for yourself. We also enjoyed the cold bar. We have eaten there several times and each time the menu was different and every time we all found something that we liked. I'm sure you will too.

We went last December and I had the vegetable stuffed pasta (ravioli). It was sooo yummy!
Dh had the chicken and said it was very good!

I plan to eat there in September for the first time. The CM told me it was pronounced Ask Her House.

When I was there last time, the Norweigan lady at the podium prounounced it AK hers Hoos....which means the house of the Ackers. Which is a famous family in Norway....not to contradict, but I thought it was an interesting story.

I was there 6/10 and actually have the menu. It got mixed up with our kids' things.

These were the entrees for dinner:

Traditional kjottkake
Mustard-glazed seared salmon
Grilled-vegetable stuffed pasta
Sauteed chicken breast
Slow-braised lamb stew
Grilled pork chop
Citrus-marinated mahi mahi

I had the mahi mahi and it was dry. It was served over potatoes and arugula so that made it more moist. DH got the kjottkake and liked it.

Kids' meals were:

Grilled chicken breast
Cheese ravioli
Pizza
Hot dog

Desserts:

Chocolate mousse
Traditional rice cream
School-bread

Hope this helps.

That makes sense. I called and asked for the Royal Banquet in Epcot because I couldn't prononuce it.

This was very good, but we had our server laughing at our pronounciation attempts! We finally did some version of pronouncing at as an exaggerated mumble/sneeze!

Also at Dinner they had the buffet/salad bar and when we went they had shrimp and alot of other yummy stuff, we liked the menu and they even let my 4yr old have the salmon (we were on the meal plan)

I really enjoyed the roasted chicken and beans and my dh had the kjottkake, which was very good also. I just went to forvo.com as a PP suggested and the pronunciation was ahker-SHOOS that was on file. But I had always wondered why lots of people would write Askerhaus in their posts, maybe it's just a subtlety in the Norweigian accent pronouncing it?

We really enjoyed Akershus (ak-er-shoes; I had a CM do it phonetically for me LOL). My DH is a picky eater and he was stuffed. We had a party of 6 adults and we all really enjoyed it here!
