The menu is very vague on AE's website. Can anyone elaborate (or maybe have pix to share :lovestruc ) on what salads, meats, cheeses are offered? Just wondering, if we completely dislike the entrees - if there is enough "other stuff" to fill up on.

And one more question - we have a 2 yr old. Does this mean that she just can eat off of the cold buffet part but she won't be able to get her own 'entree' right? (Unless we pay for it...)

THANKS!

I did a very detailed review of lunch at Akershus in my dining review...link in my sig. I was even able to take a couple pics of the buffet itself.

If you like seafood and wierd meats, this is your place to go. If you are a vegetarian or don't eat seafood, probably not the best place to go. We wasted 200 dollars here our last trip - we will NOT be returning. my 2 year old wouldn't eat anything. She loves plain pasta, so they did bring some out for her to eat, and that was very helpful. I do not eat anything listed in the above - so I had to fill up on lettuce, some cheese, and water. I had no idea what was in the mayo based salads, therefore I didn't order any. Our desserts were completely different than the ones in the dining report above, but it was good. Not enough to share between 6 people though - they only gave us one small plate with three small deserts to split between all of us.

They have a small salad bar with some cheeses and deli meats. Also some type of cold fish that they eat in Norway.

For your 2 year old they will bring you out some pasta at no charge.

I always find the food good at Akershaus. However, DH does not want to go back again after he found a bug in his salad!! Oh well but I do really like it there.

For the most part, I totally agreed with your review of Akershus. However, I ordered the Kjottkake and loved it (but then again, Swedish meatballs are one of my faves).

Should also mention, to follow-up on a pp, that you can ask for more dessert if you want them -- the tray that they bring to your table is just a sampler. Two of the grown-ups in our party actually requested more rice pudding. In Feb. 09, the chocolate dessert also looked different.

I think with Akershus, unless you try to stick to the American-style food (if you can call the kids' pizza that) you'll either love it or hate it. It really depends on the type of food you like, not the quality of food they offer. If you hate the foods at Ikea, try to avoid the traditional Norwegian entrees.

We also paid a different price in Feb. 09 -- I want to say it was $18.50 per person -- well worth it.

This is probably a silly question (I haven't been there before and am kinda confused about the cold buffet versus the entrees), but can you just eat off the cold buffet and have dessert or do you HAVE to order an entree? Thanks! :) I really want to see the princesses here (we could only get a ressie for lunch instead of breakfast, plus i wanted to see ariel with legs), but I'm starting to really second guess it after several of the threads I have read the last few days. I had heard the food was iffy before, but I looked at the menu and thought, "oh, this chicken and risotto dish doesn't sound too bad," but now I'm scared! lol

The price to eat at Akershus is like the price of admission. Sure, you can just eat off the cold buffet and eat the desserts. It won't save you any money. You will pay the same as someone that orders an entree.

I'm not trying to save any money. I just am not interested in any of the entrees. I would rather nibble on cheeses, salad, bread, and dessert. I just didn't know if you were "required" to get an entree of something like that. Thanks for the info. :)

No problem. I easily could have just eaten more and more of what was on the buffet. We really enjoyed our entrees too though. Hope you have a great meal!

Thanks! I'm glad to hear the buffet is good - it looked good, esp. the bread. I'm really excited about the desserts - I have never had the schoolbread!
