I was just looking on All ears and saw that at Akerhaus one of the desserts has been replaced with school breead. I hear it's great, but seems the dessert they replaced was one that sounded really good to me. Anyone remember what it was? Now they have listed:

Flourless Chocolate Cake
Sponge cake layered with raspberry jam topped with
vanilla pastry cream and white chocolate shavings

Traditional Rice Cream
topped with Strawberry Sauce

School Bread
A Norwegian Specialty
Baked sweet dough filled with pastry cream
topped with toasted coconut

Don't get me wrong, they all sound good. I just can't remember wht the other one was and thought if it really sounded good maybe we could try it at the bakery.

Thanks...

We were just there in September and now I can't remember all three desserts!:confused3 I know rice cream was one and "princess cake" was another. The third was - ?? FWIW, we were chatting with our waitress and she said rice cream was the only one that was really Norwegian. The others were new to her.

I seem to remember something with berries - lingonberry tart? or something like that

The Royal Chef's Dessert Plate includes: Traditional Rice Cream, Chocolate Mousse Cake, and Lingonberry Cheesecake

This was taken from the dining link here on the DIS.......so if they changed it then they got rid of the cheesecake

We were there last week and the Lingonberry cheesecake was gone. In it's place is a little schoolbread. I thought that cheesecake sounded really good!

The last time we were there in January 2008 they were rice cream, princess cake. and some espresso cake (or something coffee related). I remember because it was the kids andme and none of us are coffee fans and were disappointed that they changed it at that time...but a change to School Bread would be great with us!

Sooooo, how was the rice cream?

Sorry, haven't been back here for a couple of days. I like the rice cream. It's really just a creamy rice pudding with a berry topping.

Another dessert that our waitress said she liked was the kringla sweet pretzel (although she said her family doesn't make them with nuts and it's a holiday treat). Kringla from Kringla Bakeri og Cafe are my favorite (w/almonds). I have tried to take these home...they don't travel well

I'm definitely in the minority here. I did not like the School bread.

When we ate there last August. We had the cheesecake, rice cream and chocolate mousse. The chocolate mousse was my favourite. The only dessert left was the rice cream. I found it tasteless.:confused3

I liked all of the desserts, including the school bread. The chocolate cake almost tasted like dark chocolate candy. However, our daughters, 8 & 6, did not like any of the three desserts - they are a little picky and I would say the desserts are more oriented to adults rather than kids.

The desserts are the part of this meal I'm least excited about - a chocolate mousse or cake should be fine, but I don't like coconut and DH isn't into pudding-like things. We're not actually picky, those just are two we're not big fans of. It's just dessert, though, and not the main part of the meal... we'll survive!

Anyone know what the beginning part of the meal is? I thought I saw somewhere something about a cold bar of meats and cheeses or something? Is that correct?

Yes. Below is quoted from allears.net:

Everyone's Royal Feast begins with
"A Taste of Norway"

Sliced Deli Meats

Seafood

A grand selection of prepared salads and cheeses

Yes. After you're seated and give your drink order, you can go up to the "Koldtbordt" It really is just a salad bar with some Norwegian cheese, smoked fish and meats added in. There is also fruit and, of course, salad.

As far as dessert goes, I bet if you talk to your server at the beginning of the meal, they may agree to bring you just the mousse. It doesn't hurt to ask. I never tried the school bread because although I like coconut, I have an aversion to it on any type of frosting. (It made me sick as a little kid- so now :scared:)

GatorLady, you are the one who convinced me to go and you know, I am really excited about it. I am ready to try something totally different than we normally would. I am going to be getting the Grilled Vegetable-Stuffed Pasta with mushrooms and carmelized onion cream. It sounds interesting, so that is what I am planning on ordering. I think DH is looking towards either the Traditional Kjottkake or Classic Lamb Stew. (I like beef, and a little pork and chicken, wish I wasn't so picky, but I am, he's a much more adventurous eater). Glad you reponded to my questions a while back, I was nervous to try this but am excited to be (and my DDs are going to love the experience!)

Thanks for the info! I'm sure we'll be fine with whatever... we normally don't eat dessert anyway, so our whole WDW trip will be a treat.:woohoo:

I LOOOVE the rice cream dessert!!!!

O.k.,, now you've made me nervous! What if you DON'T like it!:scared1: ;)

I hope you do, as you know we certainly did! Worse case, even if you don't love the food, it's great to get to meet all those princesses in one place. I think I mentioned we had the Kjottkake and really liked it. My DH and DS love anything that resembles meatloaf.:)

I see by your signature that you will be leaving soon. I hope you and your family have a very magical trip. Here's a little pixie dust for you!:wizard:
