My son is really into snakes right now. He wants to know if when we go to Animal Kingdom in the fall will there be any snakes he can see there. Are there any exhibits with snakes?

Yes, there are some snakes on exhibit at AK and even some that are brought out for encounters at random times and at random locations. They only do these briefly due to the stress on the animals (according to the CM I've spoken with)

I was able to pet a snake at Rafiki's Planet Watch. (This was a really big deal for me, the last phase in my treatment for a debilitating phobia! The cast member was an absolute treasure about it!) They have numerous tanks of snakes at Planet Watch you can observe as well. Sometimes you might just see one out and about living its life too: once we had a bright green one one cross our path in the Oasis, and another time I saw a big black snake hanging out by the hippos on the Safari.

Yes, good point. There are many varieties that live native around WDW. While rarer it is possible to spot them. We've caught (with our eyes, not literally with our hands) tiny ones on paths warming themselves on the concrete. So tell him to keep his eye out when walking around, especially in an area that's sunny and not well traveled, and has an escape route for them to get away from the hungry birds.

Just hope we don't have any close encounters with any venomous ones in their natural habitat in Florida.... when we were in the Outer Banks we came across a water moccasin and our son who was 3 at the time just happened to be running right around that area when we saw it.

Aren't there a few snakes in that little building you go through on the Gorilla Falls trail? The building with the naked mole rats and the hippo skull.

We had a snake literally leap out from the bushes three feet in front of us at POR last week. You never know when you might encounter one.

Just don't go in standing pockets of water in grassy areas or any of the natural bodies of water. Stay on the paths and there will be little chance of close encounters. Check playgrounds before little ones run around.
